i read it ..my take on it ?..i took vitamins, took in enough protien and still lost my hair..i also had 2 surgerys that year so maybe the only thing i can blame the hairloss on is anastechia..
but hair grows back..i also know some people after major surgery get the shingles..
so i suppose if you take your vitamins get your protien in you wont lose hair...

I agree with you Joann. I too, lost hair depsite a high vitamin/Essential fatty acid intake..my surgeon told me it was anasthesia and surgery trauma related.
I had other surgeries too, and lost hair with all of those too..not to mention chlldbirth. Some people lose hair..some people dont..luck of the draw I suppose.
I did all the right things, and no vitamin..cheap or expensive was gonna help me..nor hair care product cheap OR epensive lol
If it's gonna go, it's gonna go
Ditto. Did all the right stuff post-op, including protein shakes and good quality vitamin supps and had temporary hair loss anyway. No big deal.
Based on three-plus years of reading the MB and Q&A board, I've learned that temporary hair loss sometimes happens to non-WLS surgical patients, and even to some non-WLS pregnant women, and to those with thyroid problems, and to post-ops who take protein supps and those who don't, and to post-ops who use biotin and other nail/hair products and those who don't, and on and on and on. In the vast majority of fresh WLS post-ops (six months out or less), the hair loss is temporary and limited in scope.
I think that anyone who sells any product suggesting that it will help avoid temporary post-op hair loss for WLS patients should back that offer up with a money-back guarantee.
Long-term, anybody with unexplained hair loss should get their labwork done to try to pinpoint whether there's a nutritional deficiency or thyroid problem or whatever cause is behind it, and then treat it accordingly.
I know you weren't referring to this months rant--but I thought I'd throw my two cents in about the hair loss thing. I really don't think there is much that can be done to eliminate the hair loss which occurs in the early, 3-6 months, post op period. I have noticed, however, that every time I get a little skimpy on my protein I lose more hair now. Just my observation.
Oh--and I agree with her rant about taking proteins and supplements in general. It is extremely disappointing to see people have wls and not do their part--by taking vitamins and getting the required amount of protein either by supplements or through food. I just sometimes wish Susan would phrase things more pleasantly--but then it wouldn't be a rant then--would it?
and the previous months rant---about plastic surgeons--I agree with that one too.
This is the third time I've lost 100 lbs. First time was Weigh****chers - I ate very well and took plenty of vitamins - lost quite a bit of hair. The second time was Phen/Fen - didn't eat terribly well and had just a little hair loss. This time I'm eating well, supplementing religiously - no hair loss. So maybe the hair loss or not is mostly just luck.
I certainly agree that we have an obligation to eat, drink and take all our supplements. We are very fortunate to have had this marvelous opportunity and should do everything we can to stay healthy. (Not saying I'm perfect by any means - but I do always take my vitamins and minerals and I'm lucky to be very healthy.)
Yeah WLS!
