Do you eat sweets?

I am at goal and I do certainly eats sweets...........but usually only after I have eaten my protein and good veggie and fruit carbs for a meal. I still love sweets but the key is that I eat them in moderation. I have been at goal weight since 16months after surgery and am currently easily maintaining that goal weight Actually I had a funny thing happen at the Jersey Shore- I had my favorite shore food while on vacation-fudge, sal****er taffy, caramel corn, Douglas caramels, pecan turtles. The difference is this time the free fudge bites were enough, a turtle lasted two days, I had one piece of sal****er taffy and 3 caramels over 6 days, and the popcorn I had 1/2 cup serving twice. I came home with a lot of it----------and in the week and 1/2 home I have had 3 more caramels and three more servings of the popcorn. I ended up losing for the vacation 2 lbs came off on the scale. This I attribute to the huge amount of walking we did and the fact I did my normal water aerobics while down there too. As too Al Roker eating a s'more on tv----as long as he is happy at his weight and is not trying to lose anymore and he does not dump----I am proud that he is comfortable enough with himself that he eats what he wants. I am living life now, the only food rules I have is to get all my protein in daily and to consume the carbs in a mindful way. gratitude is my attitude Amanda S VG-DS October 2001 highest >350/342 start of wls journey/154@goal and after ps

I eat sweets whenever I want which, thankfully, is not often because I never was a big sweet eater.

Ok, my demon was sweets--I totally OD'd on chocolate. So THANK GOD I dump. (Remind me I said that after an episode) Yes after 4 years I still dump on anything over 5-6 grams of sugar. Even some fruits. I'm glad, because I flat out do not have the willpower to keep away. I would out eat the surgery if I could eat sugar. If you can do it, that's your decsion. We all have to reconcile with our new lives. Part of that is discovering the boundries--howver they are established. good Luck, Bek

The thing is, was Al eating just one s'more, or just a bite, or a whole platefull? He has said that his goal was to be healthy and to feel "normal" and that did not mean he needed to get down to a size 32 waist pant. He even said that he didn't care to have a TT---it wasn't that important to him to be that slim----just healthy. I feel very much the same way. I wanted to be healthy and "normal", and I think I'm there, even though I am still a size 12/14 I feel great and feel "normal". And "normal" people eat s'mores on occasion. One s'more would not make me dump, but 2 might, so I stick to 1 and maybe it's just twice a summer, but I don't fret over it. If 1 turns into 5, well then it becomes a problem for me and i would try really hard to stop.

Well is sure has been great reading all of your responses. My inital argument with 0-6mo. post ops was that you should not be eating sweets or testing the boundaries. I don't think that Al Roker should be eating smores, but I think after listening to all of you, I guess the consensus is if you can control it, go for it as long as it is not getting too much. Thanks alot guys, you are all awesome. Keep up the inspiring jobs! Michelle 294/150

I so agree with you that at 0-6 months out one should not be eating sweets, or even nibbling on them. I don't think you mentioned this timeframe in your original post. Al however is over 2 years out, maybe 3 and that's a different thing---at least to me it is.

Yeah, guilty as charged! Unfortunately I don't dump. I do allow myself an occassional piece of real chocolate. I am on that scale every week, and if it even looks like its gone up, I cut back immediately. Still keep in touch with my doc with regular bloodwork, so everything is right on track.
