Do you eat sweets?

Since, I don't crave sweets that much, the temptation isn't there. The only 'sweet' I have is a little bit of a Hershey's candy bar. I give the rest to my boyfriend. All other sweets, cake, candy, ice cream, etc. makes me ill... So, I avoid it. I guess that's a good thing. Prior to WLS my weakness was ice cream now, ewwwwwww..... L

Morning No, I do not eat sweets (real or sugar free). I dump terribly on fruits if I'm really not careful with them, so I have had no interest in trying something sweet. I had told my surgeon prior to surgery that I hoped the surgery did for me what antabuse does for an alcoholic. We don't always know what we are asking for because it has come to pass! Sweets was my major weekness prior to surgery, so this has been a very good thing for me.

Hi Michelle, I eat something w/ sugar occasionally, but not often since it kicks off cravings for me, and makes it harder for me to maintain. I don't think there's anything wrong w/ eating an occasional sweet once you've met goal. It's just that they cause problems for me due to my carb addiction, so I tend to avoid them. I saw Al Roker the other day on TV though, and I think he needs to leave those smores alone for awhile longer. Linda

I do not eat sugar free candy anymore once I discovered the source of my toxic waste gas was sugar alcohols. I do eat no sugar added ice cream since it only has about 2 gms of sugar alcohol. I find that most of the sugar free junk had just as many and sometimes MORE calories than the regular stuff. I do dump if I am not careful. I have to eat protein before sweets. I do have the occasional cookie and milk, but have to be careful because cookies can be like heroin for me. ( see! 2 sins for the price of one sugar and drinking with food, but the protein helps balance the sugar.) I have eaten a smore when camping and when having a pretend campout on a rainy day w/ my grandkids. (cured my constipation too!) I don't judge others eating choices as I have enough of my own issues to keep my busy. Al obviously has been successful and has his own program/agenda.

I also consider sugar free candy to be a *sweet* even tho it has no actual sugar. To pretend otherwise would only be fooling myself. I read the labels and look at the calorie count. the very high and empty of nutrition calorie count.

Hi Michelle, I do eat sweets, try to keep it to a minimum, but what happens is I want them the week prior to my cycle and can get carried away. Then once my cycle starts I am on my best behavior and this is when I lose weight. Go figure. MaryLyn -176 some days

once in a while I will eat REAL stuff. .like a biscotte. or a small rice crispy treat or a regular cookie, I have found that eating anything that is labled as a sugar free candy is pretty nasty tasting. Yesterday on the main board there was talk about "cheating" but this was from someone who had not had the surgery yet. they said they would never eat sugar again or something like that and I replied that you should never say. I have found fruit to satisfy me a lot though, I can eat any fruit and feel just fine. when I go grocery shopping I now either grab a banana or an apple and eat that on the ride home instead of a candy bar like I used to. the fruit is cheaper too! Hi Michelle, Great topic! Before my WLS my main addiction was to sweets so I made my mind up that after WLS I wouldn't eat it for fear it would cause my addiction to flare up again. Well, I was good for almost 2 years and then I tried some. First mistake was to have that first bite. I was into my addiction once again for about 3 weeks. I prayed to God to help me once again! I made a decision that it isn't worth it. Sugar is like POISION to me. I don't know why I thought the addiction wouldn't come back. Addiction is addiction. I'm thankful it was only a 3 week binge and not 3 years! I do have some s/f stuff once in awhile. They give me bad gas so I try to limit myself. I also have come to the conclusion that I have to give up the other snacks too, like chips etc. I'm addicted to them too. Geez, I wish they could have fixed our emotions. As they say, they fixed our stomachs not our heads. I have a lifetime of on going work to do. All in all, I rather give this stuff up then have to be always concerned w/weight gain and the way all those carbs make me feel. It's not always easy but w/the support of OH and my support group, I WILL overcome! Best to eveyone who struggles w/this addiction. I have to admit, I nibble on sweets too... but don't gorge on them like before, a few bites of a piece of pie or cake takes care of my cravings, verses the whole thing... Is a funny thing, I realized that the 3rd bite tastes just like the 10th bite, and know when I have had enough... Am the same as Lei, when it comes to the sugar alcohols, so the real stuff is in.. unless of course I am constipated then any of the sugar alcohols are my best friend... lolol
