Strange Sensations...

Ok, for the past few days, this is now day 3, I have had the strangest sensations immediately following taking my sublingual B-12. I take 1.0 mcg sublingually and get a heating sensation all throughout my body. I turn a deep red, like a serious sunburn, and this lasts for about 20-30 minutes. My hands tingle and actually hurt to rub them together. Anyone have a clue? My hands continue to feel tingle and numbing for another hour or so, and then it goes away. I had labs done towards the end of last week but have yet to get them back yet and was not experiencing this at the time I had the labs drawn. Just wondering? Gail

What you are experiencing sounds very much like the reaction common to niacin supplements. Is this a new bottle of B12 or are you getting a different reaction to units from an existing bottle? Perhaps the contents of the bottle are not right? Beyond that I have clue. Still living in my Nowhere Land... Nowhere Man

Nowhere Man, Thanks for the heads up on the Niacin. I checked the bottle and it definately has Niacin and there is a warning on the bottle regarding Niacin dilating surface capillaries and may cause the sensations I am having. I called my PCP and she said that has to be it. I also spoke with the lady at the health food store that sold me the stuff and she said the exact same thing. I am no longer worried, thanks! By the way, it was an existing bottle that I had been using so the symptoms are abit strange but I think all is well. Gail

One can build a tolerance to the basal cell blush reflex associated with naicin supps, but it takes a little time. I have never heard of someone going the other direction. Go figure. I can't take the stuff. I ended feeling like my body was on fire, and ended up in the shower trying to put it out. I knew that it would subside and I knew that cool water was not going to change anything. It was simply so intense I had to do something. Still living in my Nowhere Land ... Nowhere Man

ah... I was thinking the same thing. I took Niacin one time in my life and it was one of the most scary experiences not knowing what was happening to me! I remember when I read your symptoms, I was thinking "that is a Niacin reaction" but was puzzled because it was coming from your B-12. Glad you found the solution! Dana

Hi Dana, Thanks for your reply. The B-12 I am taking is a total B subligual so I have many B vitamins in there, I just call it my B-12. It has... Folic Acid, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and and B5. Gail
