Restaurant Card?

Tek, I am 4 yrs. post and this is how I look at it. I had surgery to "fit in" in this world. Literally!! Why would I draw attention to myself by flashing a card that just causes more questions?? NOW, I have had to explain to a server that the meal I ordered was ok, because they questioned why I had eaten so little of it. But, other than that I don't explain. In the beginning, what really helped me was that my hubby has also had WLS. That is how we met, here in chat So, we would often split a meal. I had no problem doing that. Now as he is 3+ years post and one meal doesn't quite do it for the two of us. He can hold more than I can. Therefore, we each order what we want, I just know I have lunch for the next day. No problem Cheryl

I must admit that at first I thought it was a good idea, but only for the first few months. but I have since learned other ways to get good food at decent prices and I don't have to explain anything to a stranger. One thing I do now is when I order I ask for a to go container. as soon as I get my food I "visually" measure out how much I will eat and then put the rest in the to go box, this way its out of sight and its not picked over. I did this when I went out with my friend who has not had WLS, she always gripes about how misrible she feels after we go out because she eats too much. well she asked for a to go box like I did and when we left the place, she was not misrible, she was actually in a good mood. she called me later that night and said she was enjoying her left overs for dinner and thanked me for this idea. ARG!!! waiters do not need to know the detail of my medical history on this or any other health issue I may have. I would be embarrassed. I don't go to buffets, because when you go in and look around almost everybody there is obese. I love the leftovers for lunch the next day, and if I dont eat them that is ok too. I decided that eating food I do not need is as wasteful as throwing it away, just use the garbage can instead of using my body as a garbage can.

I wanted to add, eating out should not just be about the food. Or "getting your moneys worth" It should be more focused on the social aspect and the experience of being out with a friend or loved one and enjoying each other.

One last thing then I'll shut up I AM NOT A CHEAP DATE! I am worth my own meal if I so choose. I order exactly what I want. Last time I went out to a nice restaurant I ordered the ribeye steak that was the daily special at my fav italian restaurant. It came and it was the size of a plate. Big enough for a family of 4. I ate my little peice & asked for a box. The waiter asked if everything was ok and I said yes, I'm saving room for dessert & I'm a lite eater. . And ordered the flourless chocolate cake and ate 2 bites & left the rest of that too. and the waiter was definatley looking over my figure and admiring my new breasts.

Exactly.. Preop I didnt go to a restaurant or a buffet and say " I have eating issues and thats why i'm eating like a horse"..so with that..i'd never say "I had surgery to make my stomach smaller which is why I eat like a bird" It's irrelevant..I would never order off of a childs menu, sorry but hot dogs, chicken fingers and spaghetti just dont do it for me anymore and I only order what I know is good for me..salad, soup, steamed veggies, lean meats..if there is leftovers, great..if I dont eat them..my dog will eat great the next day! lol I just wish that people would stop complaining about wanting to be normal and be treated normally and then complain when they ARE treated like normal people..normal people do no ask for discounts! lol

never had one or wanted one. first of all i don't feel that going to an all you can eat buffet is where we need to be eating anyway. that is why we ended up being where we were at before when we over ate. even if you got charged a childs rate at one of those places, its still not an enviorment we should be subjecting ourselves to. i have gone to like old country buffet with my family which is one of these establishments here in my area and there really isn't too much of a good selection to choose from to eat anyway so i really felt like i was wasting my money. so now i don't go anymore. as far as ordering off of the kids menu at regular restaurants... thats a joke everything on their menus are all carbs...chicken fingers, fries, pizza, etc...i would rather spend my money on a nice salad, or chicken breast, or shrimp and have the left overs.... Tek I saw the topic and cringed..... Never had one, didn't know what they were until someone complained on the main mb, lost weight so I wouldn't draw attention to myself and fighting over a card discount in a restaurant would be counter-productive in my opinion. So instead of being the fattest chick in a restaurant I am the fat chick who is holding up the line arguing over a discount card that wasn't issued by the restaurant but some third party that has no stake in the financial well being of the establishment. I think that with my pride it would be easier to streak nekkid down Main Street handing out my before and after pics than to present or have a restaurant honor a discount card just because I chose to have surgery. Anyway...... I order what I want and the rest is a bonus for another day. Just my opinion..... Val~

After my surgery 2+ years ago, I was given a restaurant card. I always felt embarrassed to show it, and/or worried it would call attention to myself. I surely didn't need the entire restaurant fixated on what I was going to or not eat. I never used it, but kept it to show the grandkids some day as a funny. New to this board, but find the posts very interesting. I hope I did not intrude into your conversation. Melissa (Missy)
