I am on a new medication called Atarax for my hives and it says to take w/food, could upset stomach. I had a perforated ulcer the end of Jan. and was wondering if this is on the list of meds. we can't take. I hope and pray it's not on the list because it helps w/the hives and itching. Thank you for your help whoever has this list. Your Gastric Buddy, Jeannie Lap RYN 7/8/04 290/145 PS Oct.04 and more to come!

Thanks Deb! Glad to see it's "NOT" on the list. I will still call my wls on Mon. to verify it. Thanks for your well wishes too. I have suffered w/hives for about 20yrs. I have been on Zyrtec since my wls, but my new insurance won't cover it anymore so my PCP had to choose Atarax which was covered. It's much cheaper and it seems to work so far, thank God! I don't know what causes these hives, but I do know if I don't take a strong antihistamine, I will just itch and itch and itch and break out all over. So this is something I guess I will just have to live with. I don't mind as long as there is something to control it. Well, take care! Jeannie PS...I just found this board the other day. Glad we have it. I am more of a lurker, but will try and contribute.

Hi Jeannie! Haven't seen you in ages. When I searched on Atarax it said nothing about stomach problems so I would feel safe taking it--stomach wise. Hope all is well with you. What ps is more to come? I thought you looked great.

nHey there girlfriend! It has been awhile, hasn't it? I haven't been on much lately. Been busy. I didn't even know you responded to my post until today when I got a response from KD. I was happy to find out I can take Atarax. As for more PS, I am getting ready to schedule an appt. to have revisions done on my tummy tuck and change out my implants. I was going to have my arms done, but changed my mind. I don't think I can handle the scar so since I made this decision, I am working on accepting my arms the way they are. Now my legs are a different story. Give me that scar anyday compared to what I got goin on there. LOL..... I'm saving the legs for last (maybe in March) because I hear that is the worst to recover from. And by the way, thank you for the wonderful compliment, but we all know we can do a better job at camoflouging (sp)?the hidden truth of what lies beneath.LOL....and, we are our own worst critics. I will keep you updated on my date. I'm looking at Oct.14th. We shall see. Anyway, you take care and have a great week-end. Jeannie

I know this is a late reply, but I have taken atarax successfully since my WLS. It does tend to make me very sleepy (which you may have discovered for yourself by now, lol). ~KD in W

Hiya KD, Thank you for responding to my post. It's never too late! I was very relieved to find out I can take it. But oddly I am one of the rare ones that antihistamines cause me to be more alert than sleepy. I was hoping it would have that affect on me since I haven't been sleeping well lately. Oh well, as long as it keeps those horrid hives at bay I don't care what time of day or night I need to take it. LOL.... Take care! Jeannie
