Hypothyroisism Update......

Ok Gang here is the lastest. The doctor FINALLY called. My pituitary gland is the source of the problem. Apparently it is not doing what it is suppose to and that causes the thyroid not to function properly. This is called Pituitary Hypothyroidism. The doctor is prescribing medication to address the pituitary gland. WELL it only took her a week (and 5 phone calls from me) to call with this news. I am hopeful again. I think my biggest concern was that I thought I was going crazy because I knew I was not eating enough to gain weight. Even at 4 years post I can still only eat very little at a time, i.e half of a sandwich or 1 scrambled egg & a slice of bacon. Now will come the increased effort to work to get this weight back off. I will keep you posted!!! I know it may take a few weeks to actually feel better and it may even take time to get the medication right. Talking about it here will help me hang on. Hey Bug.. Wow, I cannot believe how long its been since I've seen ya. We used to be in the chat room together all the time (WendyVA) I'm so happy we have this new board to come to and address/vent our long term concerns! So glad to hear the docs were able to diagnose your condition. Hopefully you will be back on track with the help of the meds. Wendy, It is great to see you also!!! I have not kept up with my profile very well. I did go to chat a few times this summer while school was out. We started back this week. I am also working on my masters degree PLUS I have two teenage boys playing football....so I stay in the books or in the bleachers!! I too am glad to have the "grads" page. It really helps to talk to those who "have been there." I will begin meds tomorrow. I certainly hope this will improve my condition. I will keep you all posted! Bug

this is very interesting. I have low thyroid too but I seem to be putting on weight also. I had an endoscope done and they said my pouch is still the size of a golf ball and I am almost 5 years out. I am on Levoxyl but are they doing something different for you? Glad you found the problem. Dana

Hey Dana!! Glad to hear you are road to mental and emotional recovery. I too went through a divorce following WLS but it was just a couple of months following mine. I am now very happily married to the man of my dreams (yes, we also met in Obesityhelp chatroom). Gary treats me like a princess and I am sooooooooo blessed to have found him. I just found out about the medication. THe doctor has put me on Synthroid 25mcg to start out with. I PRAY that this is my answer. I have been working my butt off in the gym for over a month with NO weight loss. I know that something as got to give. Take care and maybe you need to have your blood levels checked to see if you are taking enough medicine. Lightning Bug
