Need a little advice from my peers....
Mornin' Peeps.
I hope this day finds you all in good health, happy and ready to get out there and kick some booty!! For me personally...I have a movie with my son on the schedule, then come home and take a nap. I'm exhausted.
Anywho...Here's what I need help with and I thought that since many of you have dealt with the hernia issue as posties, you may be a good source of info for me. I have been off since the second week of June with my hernia repair and go back to work tomorrow with no restrictions. My surgeon has told me though to just be careful and try not to overdo it. I work all weekend in a factory and plan on being as careful as I can so as not to do any damage to the mesh and all that good stuff. I am still VERY SORE where the mesh has been tacked on to the muscle or whereever it is tacked and thought I would be feeling like a million bucks by now. We move in 3.5 weeks and I ABSOLUTELY have to be off all restrictions so I can help with the move. If I am on ANY restrictions and someone from work sees me doing heavy lifting, I could be fired.
What I am wondering is how long did it take until the "tackings" felt much, much better?? I moved a futon yesterday and honestly, that did it for me. I was sore the rest of the day and just don't know how I am going to make it back at work. My wife told me to call the surgeon and ask for more time and I had already done that. I asked him for another week and thought I would feel much better. He gave me the week with no arguement and would probably give me 3 more months if I asked, but I just don't know if another week or 2 would make any difference. Is there something like using a heating pad or cold packs that would make it feel better that any of you have tried??
I guess I am just looking for good vibes or any advice any of you can muster up for me. I really can't be off work any longer and think I can make it if I am careful.....Am I rambling???...I think so.
Well, that's all I got this morning. Thanks to you all once again and hope you are having super days...Cap'n K-Man

Morning Special K, from what I have heard from many individuals here that have had to have mesh installed during hernia repairs, the recovery time is longer and due to the "tacking" of the mesh, yes you are going to be more tender than others. I don't the extent of your surgery or of the hernia that you had, but some do take longer than others to heal completely. As for the light stuff and being totally wasted afterwards, ask your doc about checking your bloodwork and make sure everything is up to par. After a surgery like that, some things can get lowered or depleted altogether. If you do not feel up to going back full steam ahead, by all means, contact the surgeon and discuss it with him. You may need those extra few weeks more than you realize. Listen to you body kiddo. Remember????
Take care, I am still dog-paddling myself, but keeping my head above water.

Ken,
I'm with the Missus on this one.
I'd call the Doc with the -
"Wassssuup?" question.
My hernia repair was feeling pretty good within a week,
And I was feeling GREAT by week 2!
Mine was an incarcerated Femoral Hernia,
Like the Inguinal Hernia common for Men,
But the Femoral is the one that usually
Hits Women who have been stretched by pregnancy.
Just My Luck.
How big of a "mesh site" did you have?
Mine was only about 3" square.
I felt 90% better from day one,
And truly Better than ever by the second week.
Have you been "moving stuff" early on?
I'd get the Doc in on this one.
But I'm only saying that because mine was
So "instantly" Better.
Don't "Just Suck it Up" or "Shake it Off"
Like a Guy on this.
Compared to my experience, you need to
Have this looked into.
Best Wishes-
Dx
Hey again Dx.
I called the doc and they suggested small doses of Ibuprofen. I started it 24 hours ago and it is somewhat better. The mesh site measures about 3.5 inches across to 7.5-8 inches long. It was a BIG hernia and there are a lot of sites where it was tacked on.
I will take it very easy at work and save myself for the move. My wife and I have been working on lining up as much help as possible for the move and do have a couple of weeks from the closing to get out of this house. That will make it much easier on everyone.
Be good...Cap'n K-Man
Hi sweetie.. I had the mesh put in last summer and have to say that it took MONTHS and MONTHS to feel normal... I kept getting those twinges in my side like I was running fast after drinking water... anyway I have had about 10surgeries of different sorts and for me this surgery was by far the hardest to get over. Gas pains drove me mental for months. My surgeon said not to be surprised if I have pains up to 6months. For me it was about 2-3 at least but each day got better. Gas pains were painful... dunno why but they were! didn't do any cold/hot packs but possibly try a binder or wifes girdle *winks* ... maybe that can help ..dunno
Lately I kinda feel a bludge in the top of my belly where one of my old hernias were... when I last saw my WLS I asked him if it was another hernia .. he said no but hmmm I been wondering.. anyway the mess helps ... and really no problem anymore but definately out of 3 C-sections, 2wls surgeries, and other surgeries.. this one took the cake...
hang in there sugar... I feel yer pain
Yikes Deb!!...It sounds like you have really been through the wringer with all your surgeries. Thanks for the tips and the thought of me in a girdle is a funny one!! I think I'll stick to the binder and I'm going to put it in my work bag now so I don't forget it tonight.
Have a super day...Cap'n K-Man
