Well....It's active
Hey YOU!
....give me a good email address and I'll send her profile over to you. Hate to broadcast a name and make her feel like she's under the microscope, ya know? She used to be a very ACTIVE poster - but it was in the "old days" way before the new board formats.
Although she still has a profile with OH, she's moved the bulk of it off site, you can link to it from the OH one though.
Very smart woman, did everything right, followed ALL the rules plus some, very tough cookie and it just SUCKS that she's having to deal with a revision. Especially since she hollared, requested, begged, etc to have Doc Weber do it that way in the first place.
Regardless, he is ABSOLUTELY NOT TO BLAME - we both knew when we got up on the OR table what we'd decided to risk..
As far as her specifics - don't quote me on the exact time frame, but her SLD was about 3 or 3.5 years after the surgery? She's already had ALL the plastic surgeries done, was at goal, lost about 250 lbs? Give or take. She just had a revision a few months ago - this time with a different surgeon in WA State.
Anyway - I have a couple of email address saved for YOU - not sure which one is active or which one you check on a normal basis, hollar back and I'll forward the link.
Hugs - Lei
Oh DO please send me the info. I believe ALL my addys are active lol....lord knows I check enough of them The one I check most often though is [email protected] (this month anyway lol). I'll watch for that! (((HUGS)))
ok what do you mean transected? is that where they remove the other part of the stomach? I know I still have all of my stomach in me. If that is what that means Dame tooter says she lives everyday worring about a sld. So if they don't remove the other part of the stomach this could happen?? I am a bit confused HELP!!!!
Lisa
Lisa--No, they almost always leave the other part of the stomach. What transected means is to seperate the two stomachs. Originally, when this surgery was done they just put a whole bunch of staples to block off part of the stomach. They have since found that for some reason this often results in a staple line disruption. The body somehow eats away at it and the staples seperate basically leaving you with one original stomach. The way I understand it--when the stomach is transected (seperated) the use several rows of staples and then the body itself makes scar tissue to make the stitching stronger. It is really frustrating that surgeons continue to do this procedure. Makes me sad to think of two really intelligent ladies like Tooter and Lei ending up with a non transected RNY. Although--it does seem like if this is gonna happen it typically happens earlier than what both of them are.
LOL Thanks for the intelligent comment And like Lei, I too knew better - even asked about it (sigh....), but took the doc most likely to get me through it alive. And from what I understand he still does NOT transect....though I'm not sure why! Ugh.
Believe me, I think about having a scope done just to "see" even though I have none of the signs....maybe it would ease my mind some...but I'd have to pay it out of pocket because there's no cause to look. Sucks. And so I don't....I just wait. I'm hoping that, like you said, because it typically happens in the earlier stages, that I and Lei are ok.
(((HUGS)))
The scope is so worth it. I had to go in right after splitting up with David because I was having Esophageal Spasms. They wanted to do a scope on me and they told me that after 4+ years.. my stomach is still the size a little larger than a golf ball! I am transected though but it did give me peace of mind since I can eat a bit more my 4th year out.
Dana
That's great that you're pouch is still tiny! I know mine can't be too large simply from the amount of dense food I can eat. Hmm esophageal spasms...sounds uncomfortable! I've not had any ANY problems to merit the scoping though.....so.... Ya know?
I'm so glad you found this board! Hope to see you here! (((HUGS)))
Dana--Nice to see you around. I have had two scopes since surgery. The last one was last fall and my doctor commented on how small the pouch still is. However, I feel like maybe the stoma got stretched in that procedure because it definitely seems to empty out quicker. Or--it could just be me being a headcase--which of course is true in either case. LOL
Ya know Tooter--I don't know what makes us do stupid things like that. Sometimes our brain says one thing and our heart another. I have to be honest though--if I heard a doctor did not transect I would run in another direction. Just like if they wanted to do a verticle band. Right now I am researching plastic surgeons and I'm sure you've read of many people who have had surgery and come out with no belly button. For me, if the surgeon suggested I didn't need a belly button I would run in the other direction. Now I have joined a yahoo ps group for former wls people and I would say at least half of the people on that board see nothing wrong with it. Please don't tell me you don't have a belly button either. LOL!
