Pain Management - 3 yrs Post-Op
Hello. I have not signed into this account since I made one, about 3 years ago. Was sleeved on June 25, 2013 and feel wonderful except for the fact that I deal with chronic back and sciatic pain on a daily basis. Since I am 3 yrs out, is it okay to take ibuprofen or aleve? Tylenol does not work for me and *****ally wants to be doped up stronger pain pills?
NSAIDS are no recommended for any one post op WLS. It Can cause ulcers.. really bad - bleeding ulcers.
Even VSG are not immune to that. If you chose to take them - talk to your doc and decide with him/her if the risk is worth it.
If you deal with sciatica - back pain - there are other ways it can be helped - including steroids injections, physical therapy, massages, etc...
In extreme - a surgery...

Thank you! I was actually thinking about getting a steroid injection. Now would that have to be a referral kind of thing through my bariatric surgeon, or done by my primary physician?
I would not trust anyone except a great orthopedic doc that does things like that... It is an injection into your spine... only someone who knows what they do should do that. Ask around for a great (good is not good enough) back specialist

Try Pro-Enz (Google it) which is a combination of Turmeric Root Extract, Ginger Rhizone, Indian Frankincense Extract, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Lemon Bioflavonoid Complex, and Bromelain. I was on 600mg of Ibuprofen twice day for years and decided I had to stop taking because I knew it was bad for me. All my aches and pains were overwhelming when I stopped but I just didn't want to take it any longer. And, honestly, Tylenol does nothing for me. So my chiropractor suggested this to me and I swear by it. I can take up to 3 a day depending on my pain level. Most of the time I only take one a day. I suggest you give it (or something similar) a try before risking your health with Ibuprofen or any NSAID.
