Ihad RNY in November 2001. For a while I have been experiencing acid reflux. I thought the new pouch does not create acid. I'm thinking that my pouch somehow reopened to my old stomach. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I don't have a rny but have read that some do have acid reflux which I have been told you can't.  I have also seen some post that they did have the pouch and old stomach grow with a fissure between them.  It does happen.  You would need to talk to the doc about testing.

Thanks, trying to see a bariatric Dr. That did my surgery no longer available. It's a process.

I'm 16 years out and a few years back I was hospitalized for stomach ulcers.  I was told to take a Prilosec OTC every morning and haven't had a problem since.  Hope you are feeling better.

Boy, can I EVER relate.  I had RNY in 2009, and am experiencing the WORST reflux of my LIFE.  I've even aspirated into my lungs several times.  Like you, I am having a HORRIBLE time getting ANY surgeon to see me.  NO one wants to see someone else's case.  It is HORRIBLE.  I drove the 400 miles to see my original surgeon last week.  Took him a CT scan that my primary sent me for, which shows a possible gastro-gastric fistula, and twisted intestine......said they would schedule my scope and call me back.  Well, it's been almost a week.  Tried to find ANYONE to see me.....no one wants to.  Guess if I go to the ER SOMEONE will HAVE to do SOMETHING.  Or, maybe not......I have read, and have been told that you should NEVER have reflux after RNY, and if you do, SOMETHING is WRONG.  SO depressing!

After filling out a long application from a local bariatric center, I received a call today saying that they would be contacting me to set up an appointment. The clinic where I had my surgery is no longer in business. I am just requesting to be given an exam to see if there is a problem. My first step.  I would like to advise anyone reading this to Request from your bariatric Dr. a copy of your surgical history. They can be destroyed after 7 to 10 years.

thanks for your reply.

RNY on 07/01/14

I do have heartburn still.  My surgeon is not concerned.  It's a lot better than before surgery but I haven't been able to get off my PPI.
