Hi...10 years out from RnY at Syracuse Univ Hosp with Dr. Simon. Day of surgery I weighed 345 and at my last doctor apt I weighed in at 170. No matter what happens in the future, every day living like a normal person has been a blessing. Linda GA (formerly in upstate NY.)

It is really nice to hear from people having had this done so long ago.  My family is telling me i will regret changing my insides. Surgery is in a week; i have read and read whatever i can about this, talked to many people,  and feel good about my decision.

January I'll be 11 yrs out.  Last year I had a major complication. Even knowing what I know now, I would do it again without hesitation.  In fact, if I could, I would have a revision done now.  There will always be someone around you that will be critical about your decision.  They'll tell you that you are "taking the easy way out".  This is not a "way out" it's a new way of life.  Wait and watch when the weight starts falling off, how some people around you go on diets and talk about doing it the "real or old fashioned" way.  It's kinda funny when I look back on it.  As you well know, when their diets fail, they'll shut up and leave you alone.

What was the complication and what is your advice to helping with those things that far out?  Things have gone so well since surgery, and I am also wearing things already (lost nearly 30 before surgery and now 5 more) that I haven't worn in 5 years! I feel fantastic (maybe the pain meds are talking. ..lol). I love the support on here!!!
