revision to my revision

I found out that I need a revision to my revision.  I need this not because I need to lose more weight but because my body is not absorbing enough protein and is life threatening.  I was already in the hospital a year ago because of it and had a PICC for 3 weeks until my levels got back to where they needed to be.  The news gets worse because of the new insurance my husband's work picked because of Obamacare, bariatric surgery is now excluded.  Is there anyway around this?

The only way is to try to get it approved... If it is medically necessary to correct malabsorption - and the doc would word it right - they may approve it.  If they do not - will they cover pick line - or TPN?  or vitamin and mineral infusions? You may have a good case...

if not- cash option ...

Cash is not an option.  I don't think they would have a choice to cover picc line.  Already had it once.  That is by no means a long term fix.  Waiting for new insurance card so doctor can submit to new insurance.  I am hoping what the insurance broker told me is true, that the insurance will cover it if is medically necessary.  That will be easy to prove.  Malabsorption is no joke.  I am prepared to fight for my survival.

I went to my PCP about a year ago with issues with my sugar levels she had me checking 3x a day... I was fine for the month she had me checking...She told me I was fine blah blah blah....WHEN really I KNEW SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT!!!! I called my Bariatric Surgeon crying that something was wrong with me....He immediately got me in to see the dietitian . She put me on a Hypoglycemic diet and it didn't help me at all...My episodes can happen at any time no rhyme or reason...I will just drop... They referred me to a Endocrine specialist and I've been on different pills and shots and they are not helping at this point either I have been referred to the Mayo Clinic...I am now experiencing bad anxiety due to the fact I can be in public and drop to at 40 on the drop of a dime....If any of you know anything about sugar levels and hypoglycemia this is a VERY DANGEROUS LIFE THREATING CONDITION....My job is now in jeopardy as I'm dropping at work and I NO longer drive due to dropping while I've been driving in the past....My Endo Dr just told me last week to fill out my paperwork for disability....We have talked with my surgeon about a feeding tube to see if it will help with my levels but decided against it as I just had lab work done and my vitamin A, D and Iron are all critically low....I am scheduled to go to the OR on April 21st to have a revision from a RNY to a Sleeve.....I PRAY that this will work I have a 80-90% chance it will correct it all.....So anyone whom is suffering from this I FEEL FOR YOU!!!!! It totally changes your life.....I feel trapped in a body I don't even know anymore....I'm scared...scared of surgery again, scared of it not working, scared of my levels dropping in surgery, scared to drive, scared to leave my house at this point....BTW I'm only 36 years old....THIS HAS COMPLETELY CHANGED MY LIFE...... I AM THE MASTER AT COUNTING CARBS AND POKING MY FINGERS AND HAVING ALL MY SUPPLIES WITH ME AT ALL TIMES (EMERGENCY INJECTION KIT CALLED GLUCAGON) GLUCOSE GEL, GLUCOSE DRINKS AND TABLETS....AND MY PILLS I TAKE EVERYTIME I EAT TO HELP WITH ABSORBTION OF CARBS....

I really sympathize with you about the feeling that comes when you become hypoglycemic.  For me it came out of the blue.  I am almost 4 years out and this started a little over 2 years out.  I was pre-diabetic before my RNY and had no problems until I got an intestinal infection.  Whether it was the antibiotics or what, I started having these bizarre episodes of really low blood sugar (in the 40's).  Didn't really matter when I ate but if it didn't have a lot of protein, I would get shaky, dizzy, blurry vision etc. all of a sudden. Then it started happening during exercise.  Now it sometimes happens in the middle of the night and wakes me up.  I find that am eating "just in case" so it doesn't happen.  As a result, I have gained 40+ lbs.  I wasn't at all aware that this could happen, especially that far out from surgery.  I have read a lot of anecdotal accounts of this happening to RNY's from 2-5 years out & has something to do with the lack of the pyloric valve.  Hope you find answers to your dilemma and hope you post your results to share with others.

I am 11 years out, and just started having issues that sound eerily similar to yours.  I get 'woozy' and if I don't eat immediately, I have been so bad as to be unable to count change.  I have had every blood test in the book and nothing jumps out at the doc.  Thyroid is a little low, diabetes test is a little high, but all within "normal" range.  It's pretty scary.  I've not passed out, but certainly have felt as if I could.  I eat a snack every few hours, but that doesn't always help.  Any advice?
