revision to my revision
I found out that I need a revision to my revision. I need this not because I need to lose more weight but because my body is not absorbing enough protein and is life threatening. I was already in the hospital a year ago because of it and had a PICC for 3 weeks until my levels got back to where they needed to be. The news gets worse because of the new insurance my husband's work picked because of Obamacare, bariatric surgery is now excluded. Is there anyway around this?
The only way is to try to get it approved... If it is medically necessary to correct malabsorption - and the doc would word it right - they may approve it. If they do not - will they cover pick line - or TPN? or vitamin and mineral infusions? You may have a good case...
if not- cash option ...

Cash is not an option. I don't think they would have a choice to cover picc line. Already had it once. That is by no means a long term fix. Waiting for new insurance card so doctor can submit to new insurance. I am hoping what the insurance broker told me is true, that the insurance will cover it if is medically necessary. That will be easy to prove. Malabsorption is no joke. I am prepared to fight for my survival.

I really sympathize with you about the feeling that comes when you become hypoglycemic. For me it came out of the blue. I am almost 4 years out and this started a little over 2 years out. I was pre-diabetic before my RNY and had no problems until I got an intestinal infection. Whether it was the antibiotics or what, I started having these bizarre episodes of really low blood sugar (in the 40's). Didn't really matter when I ate but if it didn't have a lot of protein, I would get shaky, dizzy, blurry vision etc. all of a sudden. Then it started happening during exercise. Now it sometimes happens in the middle of the night and wakes me up. I find that am eating "just in case" so it doesn't happen. As a result, I have gained 40+ lbs. I wasn't at all aware that this could happen, especially that far out from surgery. I have read a lot of anecdotal accounts of this happening to RNY's from 2-5 years out & has something to do with the lack of the pyloric valve. Hope you find answers to your dilemma and hope you post your results to share with others.
I am 11 years out, and just started having issues that sound eerily similar to yours. I get 'woozy' and if I don't eat immediately, I have been so bad as to be unable to count change. I have had every blood test in the book and nothing jumps out at the doc. Thyroid is a little low, diabetes test is a little high, but all within "normal" range. It's pretty scary. I've not passed out, but certainly have felt as if I could. I eat a snack every few hours, but that doesn't always help. Any advice?
