I had the gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and lost 130 lbs, unfortunately I gained 40 back.  I am in the gym, watching my calorie intake and cannot shake this off.  I plan to go back to the very basics of eating only protein(turkey, eggs, low fat wraps cottage cheese, tuna and etc.  What else has anyone else done? I regained because I got lazy and did not stay on track.  This is definitely my fault and I am ready to take all the responsibility to get myself back on track, all the sweat, tears and time it will take.  Thanks for listening to me gripe.

I don't hear griping, I hear commitment and determination! I think we have to be fierce with ourselves no matter what, but we're only human. Give yourself a break, but on the other hand, we gotta just do it if we want the results. I like your plan to get back to the basics, I also encourage getting your rear moving harder and maybe changing up your routine to work up the sweat part!

I agree 100%. Back to eating egg whites for breakfast, soup for lunch & looking for good meals at home.

Yay you! I always go back to those dreaded protein shakes, too.

Hi I lost 100 lbs in 2009 and gained back 50 after  2 years. The wgt came off so easily that I got spoiled. Have been playing around with losing these 50 lbs for the past two years. Need to get motivated to finally take it off,,,,help!!

For me it's making a fierce commitment that I do what I need to do every single damn day, no excuses, no matter what I feel like. I've gotten pretty used to it- it's just the way it is. I can tell you that before surgery self discipline was certainly not my strong suit, and this the first time I've actually been able to stay on track in my life- I'm almost 63. I'm not at all perfect, but my philosophy and attitude are sure helping. I matter, and my well being matters- it's my only time around that I know about.

So don't wait for motivation. Find your fierceness.

i love your kitty and puppy avatar, by the way!

I am in the same boat here... Had RNY March 2009. I have gained back 40 lbs and am so angry with myself. I know its because I sit on my butt and don't exercise and put things in my mouth that shouldn't be there.  I am a HUGE carb junkie, always have been. I was doing so well, but then thought I would test a piece of bread, pizza crust etc. and nothing really makes me dump, which doesn't help. Milk does, but that made me sick before my RNY, but now is worse. Which has led me to a huge calcium & vit D deficiency.

So my new years resolution is to get off my butt at least 3 - 5 times a week for an hour each time and start back with the liquid diet to kick start this, protein shakes etc and try to be good only eating what I should. I know the difference in how I feel when I eat what I should is amazing, and like total crap when I eat crap. My husband returns from deployment late March I so want to lose a chunk of this by then and at least tone up, the lbs don't bother me as much as the flab that has taken over my body and filled all this extra skin bringing me back up 2 - 3 sizes. I do not want to get back into the mess I was in before my RNY.

I am so grateful for this site and knowing I am not alone. :) Hang in the Donna, we can do this!!!!

i had my sleeve done about 3 yrs ago.  I never lost all the weight I wanted to (I lost about 60-70 lbs).  I'd like to lose 40-50 more... My problem, I think, is that I travel for my job and was never able to get connected to a local support group.

I went to see my nurse practitioner and she told me about a book called 'The 5 Day Pouch Test' by Kaye Bailey (it is available on Kindle).  This is a GREAT book!  I totally recommend this.  It takes you through a 5 day process of getting back in touch with your tool.  The first 2 days are liquids, and you can have as much as you need.  But you have to follow the no drinking 30 minutes before and after rule.  Today I'm on day 3, which is soft proteins, like eggs, fish, cheese, yogurt, etc (plus you can still have the soups and drinks from Days 1 and 2.

The book says it's not about losing weight, but getting back in touch with your tool, but weight loss is very likely.  I've lost 6 lbs already.  I have not been hungry.  It breaks you of the carbs (slider foods).

I think this is great because it is not going back to the diet yo-yo, but using the tool your surgery gave you.

Try it!

Good luck!

Diane

Thanks for this post Dianne! I had the sleeve surgery in March of 2010 and have since gained about 40 pounds back. I need to get back on track and I think the pouch test is a great idea. It will remind me of the hard work that went into losing the weight in the first place. Thanks again!
