Really? KANKLES?!?!
Ok. This past April made 4 yrs out of my RNY. I have reached my goal weight, and am actually still losing. Here's my question. How can I have "KANKLES" now, but NOT pre-surgery? Shouldn't it be the opposite? I really need to know if this happened to anyone. If so, did you get rid of them? If you did, HOW?!?!?! I was 260lbs, & I'm now 129lbs. Of course there's some flab, but not enough for skin removal. I didn't have surgery for vanity reasons, but looking better IS a bonus.
Of course I'm not a doctor or anything but my assumption would be that you might have developed a condition called lymphedema. This is basically when your lymph glands, which are responsible for moving fluid throughout your body, aren't working as well anymore. The fluid gets trapped in your lower extremities (calves, ankles, sometimes feet) and can't get moved out without the help of compression stalkings.
This condition is mostly seen in obese people, but can happen in normal weight folks as well. I would go and see your PSP about it and see if you can get a prescription for stalkings to help with it.
Good luck!
Welcome to the club baby. I'm 10 yrs post op, a size 6, and kankles like nobody's business! It is not Lymphodema, it is all the lovely skin pooling just north of our feet! If you lay down, and put your legs at a 90 degree angle, the skin goes the other way...voila...no more kankles. Of course, we have to stand up some time, right?
I have always said that I would rather have hanging skin than hanging fat any day.
Way funny! I too prefer hanging skin...
