alcohol & RNY
I am sorry to hear about the problems you have had. I have had some of the same issues, although I would rather not elaborate just yet. It is worth googling "itsnotaddictiontransfer", all one word. A nice young woman has been studying the issue and has some great reference materials for all of us to read as well as a great vitamin/mineral regimen to follow.
I agree, do not start drinking after rny.
Best to you.
I am so glad you posted this.
I am so grateful for my recovery. I have always drank alcoholically but did stop at certain points in my life.
I started drinking about 3 months after my surgery and taking pain pills.
I no longer drink but still struggle with the pain pills.
I attend meetings and I still struggle. I have faith that I will actually get it and surrender completely.
Keep posting/talking about this. It is so important to get the word out.
Emily, thank you for sharing your story!
Same here!
I was only socially drinking before WLS.
I am going to be 4 years post op in May.
I lost close to 100 lbs. in the first year, and then started drinking.
Same thing happened to me, I would drink every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday like there was no tomorrow.
Sometimes I would finish half a bottle of grey goose vodka per day on those three days.
Needless to say, I gained back about 30 lbs.
Right now I'm struggling to lose those pounds again but I know with hard work and discipline I can do it,, and definitely have to limit my alcohol intake.
Good luck to all,, and yes, if you're not drinking, don't start!
