Regret ?

Do you take vitamins?  At a minimum you should be getting in 2 multivitamins, 1800 calcium citrate, B12, either sublingual or shots, dry D and that is before you have a complete set of labs and find out what other vitamins you are deficient in.  And a DEXA scan.  Osteoporosis is no fun.  And make sure to get your PTH checked as well.

If I were you I would head on over to vitalady.com and check in with them.  Vitalady is a long term post op and has devoted her life to learning what us post ops need to stay healthy.  They can advice you on what labs to get and what vitamins you need and the proper kind so you will absorb them.  And I haven't even started on protein.  I don't care if it makes you sick.  You will be a hell of a lot sicker if you don't do those things.  Your quality of life sounds bad now, if you don't get a handle on what you need it will get worse.  Trust me, I got to where I couldn't leave my house.  I didn't have the energy to take a shower, brush my teeth, comb my hair and get dressed.  I am not lying.  I would wear the same clothes for days, even to bed because I didn't have the energy to take them off.  And it has taken a revision to reduce my malabsorption, a lot of labs and supplements and years, yes years, to get to where I finally am healthy.

Four years ago I would have said hell no, I wouldn't do it again.  In fact, I went to my surgeon begging for a reversal only to find that it couldn't be done so I had a revision to reduce my malabsorption and I decided I would make the best with what I have.  Now, would I do it again?  I honestly don't know.  Malabsorption is nothing to mess with and I took it too lightly in my desperation to lose weight.  I found out there are much worse things then being fat and I was living it.  You have a chance to turn it around but you must take it seriously and make your health a number one priority.  There was a point that I was seeing a doctor almost weekly for labs and other issues.  I never want to go back there again.

Don't know her personally nor her surgeon although I know "of" her surgeon and his recommendation as I know a couple of people that used him.  NO I'm sure she wasn't given a good vitamin regime at all.  Scary what some surgeons recommend or lack there of, hence why I stay involved in the WLS community.

The labs suggested by most don't protect us from deficiencies and I know in my situation had I not been proactive I would probably be experiencing some deficiencies myself.

I followed my surgeons regime and I know where it got me.  They only want yearly labs for very basic things.  I have to fight for every lab I get beyond that.  I learned the hard way that the surgeon isn't always right.  That is why I stick around here, too.  I learn so much from those who have been doing this for a while.

Physically - yes.  That part was easy.

Emotionally - no.  While it is much, much better now early out it was rough.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Can I ask what surgery you had and Why you feel that way?  Would there be another surgery you would opt for?

ABSOLUTLEY NOT, I would not do it again TODAY...that being said, I do NOT regret anything in my life either. Everything is a learning experience with choices that we make.

RNY here. First time post. I had RNY in October 2012. Would I do it again. WITH OUT A DOUBT!!! I would have it again. I'm 5'3" and was 230 lbs. now I'm between 108-115 lbs. I go between that with water weight during my cycle.... Has all of this been smooth HELL NO. .. 3 months after surgery I had to have bowel blockage surgery because I lost weight too fast. Two weeks after that, my gull bladder had to be removed. 4 months later I was told I had a small ulcer in my pouch. Then in September. Because I didn't take care of the ulcer. It resulted in a 5 day hospital stay. Now I'm totally over my ulcer taking meds for it in the morning and evening, eating properly, taking vitamins, and getting proper exercise. Even with all that. I'd do it again in a heart beat because I've seen what my life would have turned out to be like if I hadn't taken control and a drastic step. Worth every single hardship.
