10 years out and not so great, but I am not quitting!

I am now 10 years and 3 months out from having the R&Y.  I was around 425 when I had surgery and got down to 235.  I stayed there for the first 4-5 years and then slowly my weight has been creeping back on.  I went from 235 - to about 275 and plateau for a couple of years and then had back surgery in 2011 and now have gained another 55 pounds.  I am now at 330 and realize this has got to stop. I also started drinking wine about a year after my surgery and after many years of wanting to quit and knowing it was not good for me or my life and transferring my addiction to that, I have stopped drinking two weeks ago and started exercising again.  I had this surgery for a purpose, to become healthy, and live a longer a life.

The surgery was and still is the best decision I ever made, but beware its pitfalls.  Make sure you deal with what really made you obese in the first place and do not transfer it to another "drug".   I know I am on the mend and will lose this 100 pounds again, and the raod will be hard and bumpy but I intend to do it.

I would love to hear from others that had the surgery many years ago and see how you are doing and how all of us no matter where we are in our journey will support each other.

I'm 6 years out. Lost 200lbs total, and stay within a 10lb range. I have some health conditions crop up that makes staying fit harder, but I'm still working on it.

And I like donuts and cake as much as I did pre-op. Unfortunately the lack of hunger and lack of cravings post op doesn't last forever. I splurge sometimes, but I have to keep a lid on it or else because they didn't rewire my sugar addition during the RNY!

I am 8 years out.  I went from 262 to 128.  I have gained back about 20 lbs.  I would love to lose the 20 lbs, but just can not seem to move the scales.  Yes, I love sweets and chips.  I walk most days about 2 miles a day.  I eat/drink a lot of protein.  I know I eat too many calories.  I am 5'1" and 68 years old.

Good luck on your new life style.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I'm 11 years out from RNY. Went from 310 to 155. Held for a couple of years, then started drinking wine at night. Yes, it's very easy to transfer addictions. I gained 45 pounds in a fairly short period of time. I'm back down to 170-175 and gave up the wine about a month ago. Hang in there.

I  am  8 1/2  years  out ..  Went  from 317 to 110 ..  I  have  been  able  to  maintain the  weight  in  the  range of  105-110 ...I  still  eat protein  bars  plus  small  meals  just  like I  did my  first  year..  This  was a  life  style  change  for  me ... I  still  remember  where  I came  from and  I  do  not  want  to  return that  is  my  motivation.
