weight loss 4 years past goal
Hello! I hit my goal of 145 four years ago and stayed there for four years. I've seen my weight creep up and now I've hit the 160 mark it is time to make some drastic changes. I dropped to my pre-goal dieting and excercise stratagies (1400 calories, shoot for 100 g protein, no processed carbs, zero soda, zero alcohol, etc) and upped my excercise by 30 minutes of cardio a day (plus 45-50 minutes of weight training that I do regardless). It's only been a week but I have zero movement on the scale and am feeling defeated. at 5'7 160 lbs is not obese, (much better then 319:) it just feels like alot of work for nothing...but I'm afraid if I do not change something quick the 160 end up 180 in no time. Any suggestions, thoughts?

Hi Newlife77
I have had WLS four years ago next month and have gained some weight back and am back at the gym three times a week. I am not sure we will loose the weight as quickly as we did when we first had the surgery. You sound like you are doing everything correctly, just make sure you are pushing the water as well. You will be back at the weight you want in no time. I am not going to look at the scale again until 15 April. I feel it in my clothes that I am losing inches but will wait (weight) for the scale to tell me if I am losing the pounds. Good Luck and keep up the good work.

I had WLS back in 05 (315lbs to 187lbs) After two kids, gestational diabetes, some fenugreek, and months of bedrest, I wound up back at 280. Yikes.
Last year, I tried the traditional diet. I did Weigh****chers and worked out 3 x a day 1hr each (zumba and calisthenics) I lost 30lbs very slowly. and petered out after 4 months. We were moving and doing lots of stuff.
This month, my life stabilized again. I decided I was doing this all wrong. I've been using the Rules of the Pouch and I've lost 10lbs in two weeks. I get between 1200 and 1400 cals per day, I work out 2-3 times a day 10-30 mins each (zumba or running) when I stuck at 242 for a few days (one of my body's longest "set points") I made sure to work out more cals than I ate. I'm at 239 as of this morning, and down 3% body fat.
Good luck. If you post regularly, I'll cheer you on. If you have a youtube, you might give the channel too..

I think she's probably referring to this: http://www.gastricbypassfamily.com/PouchRules.html
The basic rules are:
1) at least 64 oz of water per day
2) ALWAYS eat protein first, then complex carbs, fruits (white carbs should be limited)
3) Take your vitamins everyday
4) Exercise
Many find logging their intake daily to track calories, carbs, protein and fats to be a very important part of losing and maintaining.

even if you weight is not moving...a healthy life style is not for nothing...it is not all about the scale...
that being said believe me i struggle with the same 10-15lbs since i lost my initial 100lbs...but I have to remind myself that exercise is not just for weight loss...for me it is my therapy...strengthens your heart, lungs, muscles, bones...just keep that in mind as well...
Hi! I had RNY back in 2004 and have done well. I hit my goal (I am 5'8" tall and went from 263 to 143) and with great care was able to maintain. I weighed every day and whenever I was up 3 pounds, I cut back right away for a couple days. It seems to come off more easily if you do it right away, for some reason. I am an older woman, BTW.
Anyhow, I did well until I got seriously ill with a lung disease. The docs loaded me up with mega doses of Prednisone for 10 months - guess what the first side effect is? Increased appetite! I gained 45 pounds or a little more than that. And I was never any good at dieting... and I can't exercise much because of a broken back, newly-replaced knees and shortness of breath which is a residual of the lung disease. Then I went through Prednisone withdrawal, and that's another challenge. But I just wanted to tell you the bottom line:
After a while I was able to start cutting back a little. It wasn't a drastic cutback but slowly and surely, I lost a little weight here and there. I am down to 169 pounds and when 4 more pounds come off, I'll be in the NORMAL weight limit for my height. It's my plan to get back to 143 pounds, in time. After all, I donated all my fat clothes a LONG time ago!
I am still so grateful for the tool I received back in 2004!
