VSG and menopause

I had a full hysterectomy 6 months ago and that put me into surgical menopause. I have 25 pounds remaining. Did anyone else was experience this? Can you finish losing weight while in menopause? I am scared I won't be able to get to my goal.

Sorry I'm just seeing this now - not really a WLS graduate yet, but getting close enough to goal that I started poking around here.

I am having an oopherectomy this summer, so I can't give you advice from the other side of surgery, but I talked to my gynecological surgeon and my nutritionist, and they both said that surgical menopause itself should not impact my ability to lose weight or maintain weight loss.  Frequently the weight gain associated with menopause is related to age (and I am still pretty young - 42) and decreased activity due to tiredness, which I will have to work on.  My NUT also has equipment to measure metabolic rate, so if I do have issues he'll test me and we'll take it from there, but he didn't expect that to be the case.

Good luck, and hope things are going well for you.

Thank you for your response. It is nice to see that I am not the only one going through this. Like you, I am younger than the average woman in menopause. I was 38 when I had surgery. I do experience fatigue and sometimes it does impact my motivation to exercise. But I really try to focus on exercise. I am trying to focus on losing my remaining weight. Thanks again! Good luck with your surgery!
