Vitamin D Levels - Muscle aches and pains

This is something that has worked for me suggested by my nut, I use the 5 hour energy, I take it over 3 days and then wait 2 and start again.  I absorb it much better and it keeps my levels up.  I don't get the energy rush because I am not taking the whole bottle at one time.   Hope you feel better soon.

Vitamin D is so important in my life.  I live in MN and had a terribly itchy rash on one shoulder, that wouldn't leave.  Our family Dr. put me on antihistimines.  I was told that a lot of people have the same rash and take meds for years.  We ended up moving to TX and when I ran out of the pills, I quit using them and the rash never came back. I forgot about it completely.  We moved back to MN after a year in TX and within a year my rash was back.  I concluded, since I wasn't on any vitamins (stupidly) that it was the sun, so started testing with D.  If I get enough D, the rash stays away.  Enough D is a lot!  If I take 30,000 units a day, the rash stays away.  Probably half or less of this absorbs.  I have finally found D tablets that I can crush and seems to help a little but still have to take between 25,000 and 30,000 on a daily basis.

I consider myself to be a great study in how much D a person really needs because non bypass people don't have enough in winter and all kinds of illnesses can be attributed to this. Nobody around here is aware that this rash can be attributed to D.   I have searched on line and never found anyone else with this either.  My family doctor doesn't believe in D levels being to low or understand what happens after bypass.  I am changing doctors, my bypass surgeon is 75 miles away so don't go there.

I came on here and just joined because I have a sensitive tongue and wanted to know what to attribute that to.  I know my vitamins, minerals and protein are now on a constant level.

I can believe what you are saying.  I like you for whatever reason quit taking my vitamins.  I guess I ran out of them and just didn't bother with getting more.  I started not being able to sleep on a particular side due to my hip and my knees hurting so bad.  There were other issues as well but it dawned on my about my vit D.  I am taking 50,000 units per day of vit d. That may be too much.  I ordered it from vita-lady instead of using the doctor prescribed.  It is crazy what a lack of something can do to you.

Thank  you for sharing.

Glossopyrosis (burning tongue) has been linked to magnesium deficiency.  Vitamin D and magnesium work together.  Here is information on glossopyrosis:  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21937022

Hi,

Sorry, I know this post is older but I have a question. I started taking vitamin d in the spring around March. After only about a month I developed a severe case of tendonitis in my arm. I was in excruciating pain for 2 months. I started taking a higher dose of vitamin d3 about a month into that pain. So once the tendonitis finally started to heal, I started noticing my right elbow was sore, now it has been sore for almost 3 months. I also started noticing pain in my feet and pain in my legs. I stopped the vitamin d thinking those as the cause, but the pain is not gone. I am miserable! When I started taking the vitamin d my level was a 17, now it is a 45. Quite an improvement, but I am more miserable now than I ever was before taking it. Please tell me where to go from here. Thanks!

I had both of my knees replaced in 2003 and upon returning to work (in the construction trade), I developed severe foot pain in both of my feet from being on my feet all day.

I went through hell for two years addressing my foot pain, having steroid injections, orthotics, sound shock therapy, and nitrogen injections in the heel of my feet to kill the nerves in my heels, (the nerves grow back in about 6 months time). Tried everything short of having foot surgery.

Then I finally consulted with the orthopedic surgeon who did my knee replacements, and he did a blood test to see what my Vitamin D count was, and in the meantime told me to take 2000 IU's of Vitamin D and 2000 IU's Calcium Citrate everyday, and scheduled me to return for my blood work (on the vitamin D count) results in two weeks.

In less than that time my foot pain disappeared completely!!! I mean totally disappeared!! I couldn't believe it.

Upon my scheduled follow up appointment with my orthopedic surgeon, he explained that, medical studies have shown that almost everyone in the U.S. of A is Vitamin D deficient (unless you reside in the sunbelt states), and that studies have shown, maintaining proper Vitamin D levels and Calcium Citrate often rids the body of unexplained bone pain.

Turns out I was severely deficient in Vitamin D, and since then take, 5000 IU's of Vitamin D & 4000 IU's of Calcium Citrate on a daily basis.

Word of caution though on the Vitamin D.

Excessive Vitamin D can be toxic so it is important to get your Vitamin D level checked, via a simple blood test.

Calcium Citrate is harmless, & your body will excrete what it does not use, the same as it does with Vitamin C.

I have recommended this to others who have been troubled with unexplained foot/heel pain and numerous others have had the same positive results, and are now pain free!

I would highly recommend consulting this approach with your doctor before trying this remedy.

Funny thing is...if I stop taking the Vita D & Calcium Citrate for a couple of weeks, I can feel the heel pain returning. so I stay on the Vita D & CC.
