Don't beat yourself up. You're a success. You admitted you had a problem when you got surgery. What you face now is what we all have to deal with. That's why we need accountability. You're also a success because you are here asking for help. So in my book you're pretty special. I am glad to cheer you onto your goal.

I'm in the same boat, sort to speak... I had my RNY gastric bypass in 2005 and lost 160 lbs from my all time high of 320. Ever since losing the initial weight, its been a constant battle for me to maintain a decent number on the scale. After things finally settled out after the surgery, I seem to have stabilized at 180 lbs. for the longest time, which was still more than what I wanted, and even what my MD told me in that my ideal goal weight should be at 150. At any rate, I've done nothing but ride the apparent roller coaster of weight loss and weight gain over the past 4 years and I'm getting really sick of it. I feel absolutely horrible in my own skin, and I'm now back up to 220 pounds, 40 lbs from where I had stabilized the longest and 70 lbs. where I'd like to be (other than for all the excess skin, which is another issue!). I'm getting so desperate that I'm thinking of going back on the 5-day pouch test... I've just been isolating myself for so long that I don't even know what the current thoughts are on this plan or what works best for most people who are this far out from surgery. Any suggestions are more than welcomed! Karen
Hello Karen
I to had RNY in 2005 March .
I am sorry for what you are going thru! Here is a bit of a positive , My Mother who had RNY in 2002 preop 350lbs lost down to
170lbs went up to 250lbs and now her body is regualting and it is down to 175lbs and all is good!!
So there is hope for all of us!!
Self love and dedication seems to be the key i think, Well for me any way .
Love and hugz
Karen,
If you look for my post on the board about information I found, I reposted a link someone else gave me to "pouch rules ". REminding myself of these rules has been good. After a few years, we forget about them. I'd start there . I'd also work on loging what foods you are eating and go back to the protein, vegetable, fruit rule and work on staying away from the white stuff and sugars. Work on getting 80-90 grms of protein in a day. Remembering protein helps you feel less hungry.
As always, know you are NOT a failure in any way. You have made the choice to have this surgery and you are making changes in your life. Yes, you've slipped a bit. But you are changing things now, and that is the focus. We will gladly cheer you on!! Try the 5 daypouch test, to get you back on track, then eat normally, adjusting what you eat, how you eat and why you eat.
blessings, Tamilynn
I understand completely. I had gastric bypass in May, 2008 and lost 100 pounds. Now I have regained 60 pounds. I am so distressed. Like you, I had things go wrong. Both my husband I lost our jobs in 2009, my sister at age 53 died from pancreatic cancer, and we had to file bankruptcy. My husband still cannot find a job, I am working only part-time and we have to take care of my ailing mother-in-law as well. Everyday I worry about my weight and I am getting so depressed. I want to lose that 60 pounds but can't find the motivation with the other stressors. By the way, it seems like many people who have had the weight loss surgery end up gaining their weight back. Any ideas anyone?
I think the most immediate help you can get is realizing that you are not alone. There are groups here and on myfitnesspal filled with others just like US. The start of the new year seems to be a perfect time to get back on track. I encourage you to become an active part of a support group (virtual or face to face). Find one that fits your needs.
You have to look out for your health. Grief is a very long and sometimes difficult process. Old habits (like comfort eating) creep back in because that's often times the only coping skill we had every relied on in the past. I lost my Dad in 2004. I lost my husband in 2001. I nearly lost my youngest child to hypothermia this weekend. Grief is an incredibly painful journey. Please reach out to any of us that you feel you've connected with. We're all in this together.
