6 years out and need to get back on track - regained 40 pounds!
Like I said, I'm 6 years out from RNY surgery and I've regained 40+ pounds. I need to get back on track and I don't know how to start. I lost track of all of my post surgery resources and so here I am, wanting to regain control and I am asking for your help. If you have your post surgery instructions available and can share with me, I would be forever grateful! I have moved half-way across the country from my surgeon's office and all of my RNY friends. I'm feeling a little flustered and desperate. Please help me if you can.
Hello, I am 7 years out from RNY. I too have lost my focus and slid back into my past bad habits with food. I am bouncing between 150 and 160 pounds. I have gradually went back to eating sweets and carbs even though I fill like crap and and experience "dumping syndrome" and wild blood sugar swings. It is time to get back to basics for me.
Today, right this minute, I am going to go back to protein drinks, water, making sure I take my vitamins, and being accountable. Would you like to be my accountability buddy?
I am 10 years post rny. Got below my goal weight within two yrs. Fourth year out gained 10 pounds. Had a life changing event that sent me back to old behaviors. Sixth year came to myself and reminded myself why the surgery in the first place. Recall your reasoning to have such on invasive surgery. I don't know about your surgeon or nutrionist , but mine said I mustn't eat ANY white foods. No white bread, rice, white potato, white flour. Basically "enriched" foods. And absolutely foods containing sugar. That's a hard one, but doable with diligence . So to start, get rid of the white stuff and sugar in your kitchen. Read labels on food before you buy and bring home. And!!let your new friends and co-workers know what you can't eat and tell them why. You'd be surprised at how many people change the way they eat because of you! They also benefit ;-) think before you eat. If you fail to plan your next snack or meal, you're planning to fail. Sending much love your way

I'm right there with ya. I'm only 4 1/2 years out and up 40 lbs from my lowest. I'm right smack where I swore I'd never be. As an early newby I was never going to let those old habits back into my life. I was going to be the poster child of RNY surgery success. Guess what? Life happens. Multiple stressors nudged me in the direction of my old habits. I chose to eat the junk, the carbs, the sugar. A nibble here. A nibble there. No one to blame but me.
I've started tracking EVERYTHING again. Food. Beverages. Exercise. If my body consumes it or does it....it gets logged into myfitnesspal.com. I've kept track of my labs but I've made an appointment to see my doc next week. I've also made a committment to myself to be more active on here again. I was the most successful when I was on here and accountable.
Best of luck to us both.
Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

I'm right with you. Going to use the my fitness pal tool as well. This is a life long battle, and I'm going to team up with people who understand me and cheer me on. I've come too far and will not go back to fat again. Going back to the basics, and I have to tell myself that every week. If I don't I will fall back into bad habits. Have not given up on drinking two protein drinks and all my vitamins though. Need to stay away from the kitchen at work, where people bring bad goodies. Stick to my healthy snacks in my office!!
