6 yrs. out and possible internal hernia!!!!
I am 6 years out from roux-en-Y surgery and I have been experiencing pain for about a year now. My doctor's were baffled on why my stomach was having so much pain until they told me I have to go back to see my WLS surgeon. So after a horrific barium swallow still no signs of nothing. No leaks. No tears. No stapleline breakdown. Just pain like my muscles hurt in my abdomin.... My WLS surgeon says he feels that I have an enternal hernia and has scheduled me for an exploratory laparoscopy on the 18th. I am really not feeling this procedure but I know it has to be done....Has anybody gone thru this????
Yes. The C-scan did not show anything but pain was there after eating and eventually all the time.
I had a very large hernia. The doc fixed it.
My friend - similar symptoms - did not have hernia but she had adhesion and they were causing all the pain. Once that was removed - the pain was gone. At least for a while.

All the time. Some days even liquids. It felt like hernia - since the pain would get worse gradually ... last for a while and the suddenly there was relieve... like nothing at all was wrong. Then I would eat ..and the pain would return... Some days - most likely when the intestines un-kinked themselves - I may be pain free for a day or 2 or 3... but then the pain would return. Some days I would want to cry and few I really did.. could not get straight... had to hold my belly... other days - very warm water would help ... or booze - wine would relax a lot of "pains"...
There were weeks that I lived on liquids and very small amount of food if I ate anything.
I would choose to drink my meals during the day and eat (I was hungry) at night - so if I end up in pain I could take pain killer. There were a few days that pain would wake me up... hold me for 30 min or so and then it was gone... (after warm water and a pain pill). I had days that it was more of pressure... all the time... or on and off.. bloated belly... swollen..
I had a large hernia and small intestines wrapped around inside and kinked. ( that was a second one - same spot - very close to the first- but bigger than before)
Once that was fixed - I had at least a year almost no pain. But now I think I may have some adhesion - feel different... pulling, and it is almost dependent what and how much I ate. Too much fiber- hurts, gassy food - just kill me, morning BM - I can feel my insides moving... o well

I also had a hernia repair. I actually had the hernia before surgery and due to my weight it could not be seen or felt. After about 18 months I noticed a lump under my breast bone. My surgeon did the repair and all the symptoms including the GERD that I still had after surgery were gone. I had Lap RNY but an open hernia repair. To be honest it was a lot harder then the RNY. Keep a pillow close by and if possible an easy chair to get in and out of. Sending you wishes for a easy procedure and quick recovery!
