How did you determine your goal weight?

I am having difficulty determining what my goal weight should be. My doctor says I should weigh 140. Currently, I weigh 159. I had a TT so my stomach is flat. There are areas that still have weight but will need surgical intervention to improve (arms and thighs). But other than that I think I look fine. But I am stuck on this 140 number. I get discouraged because I feel I will never achieve this number and therefore, I am a failure. Like all the other times I lost weight and didn't achieve my goal. I am frustrated and scared. I really want to achieve my goal weight and then go into maintainence. I have always had to lose weight so maybe I am scared about what it will be like to not define myself by the weight I have to lose.

 I saw a picture of myself at 205 and thought I was starting to look like the crypt keeper.

So, i decided to get under 200 so I could be in the 100's and made 195 my goal.

My Dr told me he thought I would get to around 120. I told him he was nuts. My body settled out on its own around 117. Who knew! That Dr knew what he was talking about.

 Is it your surgeon or your personal doctor saying 140?   While I'm pleased with my surgeon he doesn't have a clue how all my meds inter act, so I goby my family doctor.  I had lap band 2 years ago, lost 70 lbs and cannot get past 185 .  It's driving me nuts.  I would like to lose 40 lbs, my doctor says 30 would be good and my sirdeon says I' m doing fine   I would be thrilled to get to 170.  That's my goal   I have never been below 170 well maybe at birth, but I know I feel good and like myself at 170   So I guess this long ramble means go with how you feel not a number someone makes up.   If you feel great at 159 then stay there   you ha e NOT failed. Get that thought out of your mind   Look at all yo HAVE accomplished and maintain that.  Remember you are awesome!!!
