*** IMPORTANT QUESTION ***
Hey everyone!
One thing I've noticed from reading many posts on these message boards is the variation between different programs and their rules. It seems like every doctor/nutritionist has their own unique set of guidelines! But of course, there are similarities, and that's what I'm trying to discern.
Specifically, I'm interested in post-op diet tracking. What are your instructions as far as protein intake, fluid amounts, other nutrients to track, etc.?
Here's why I'm asking: I'm working on creating a special food journal for bariatric patients that they can use to track their diets. I made one for myself, and it has been very beneficial, but I want to help others with this tool. And in order for this tracker to work for everyone, I need to come up with a general idea of post-op requirements.
So, please take a moment and answer these questions. I'm just looking for a brief summary of what your doctor & nutritionist have advised. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
(1) How much protein should you consume per day?
(2) How many fluid ounces should you consume per day?
(3) What other factors are you supposed to track? (Such as calories, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, etc.)
(4) Of those other factors, what amounts should you be consuming per day?
(5) What are your exercise guidelines?
(6) What vitamins & supplements should you be taking?
(7) Are there any other things you have been advised to track?
(8) What would you like to see in a diet tracker?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
It might be nice to have a single place to track labs. Also, mobile versions that would sync with a desktop or laptop would be nice. Finally, it would be nice to have dr appts and support group meeting reminders/attendamce all in one place.

I know you posted this a few weeks ago, but hope this will still be helpful for your tracker - which I think is a great idea. I just had my RNY surgery on 4/23/12 so I'm still in the early stages. Here is what I'm supposed to track:
1. 50-60 grams protein per day
2. 64 oz of fluids per day
3. calories (carbs and fat they weren't as concerned, but gave me guidelines)
4. calories around 500 per day for the first 3 months; 30-36 grams of fat per day; 50-60 grams of carbs per day
5. at least: aerobic exercise for 1 hr, 3x per week; and toning/strength training for 1 hr, 2x per week
6. I take the Bariatric Advantage mult-vitamin drink mix 2x per day that contains all the vitamins, calcium, etc I need. The only thing it doesn't contain is the iron and I take a 30mg Iron chewy bite (with vitamin C) 1x per day (also from Bariatric Advantage)
7. that was all I was given to track
8. I think what all you have covered in your questions are perfect - too much more would be hard to track too many items
Good luck and looking forward to seeing your diet tracker!
