Help
Hello All. My story is I had RNY 4/30/2007. I am 4'10 and my starting weight was 205. The lowest I got down to was 115 in 2009. In 2009 I had my gallbladder removed and a total hysterectomy done. After that in the last 3 years I have put on 25-28 lbs. I feel like the biggest failure. I am in a size 12 now and it makes me so mad. Last night I decided to go back to one week of just protein drink to get me back on track. So my plan is to have 2 Atkins protein shakes a day (10gm) each of protein, (2) Bari Wise drink mixes that you put into 8oz water (15gm)each and a protein bar (21gm) which would put me at 71 gm protein daily. And of course drink lots of water. How much protein should i be getting in daily? I need support to get back on track. When i had my surgery I told myself that i would never put weight back on and yet it happened in the last 3 years. My doctor told me that alot of women gain weight back after a HYST but he is not sure why but he sees it alot. This did not make me feel any better. Is there a different group that I should look into?
We all are very individual. Size 12 - sound great - for some. You still maintain a large weight loss - so not all was bad.
As how many proteins you need - only you and your doc - or nut can tell you that.
'
The basic is 60-70 gr per day, and then you can adjust to see how you are doing. I am bigger than you are 5'4, large bones muscles - I need 120-150 gr per day. When I do not get that much on a low carb diet (the body will use some proteins as fuel and burn it ) I get low normal protein blood level.
When I do moderate carbs - I need less proteins. But with low carbs - My body will use that as fuel.
I would start with 60-80 gr per day, 800 cal per day, then adjust based on the lab values. Ideally you may want the proteins to be in 7's... (mine currently is 6.7... still trying to get it up... ).
small frequent meals, every 2-3 hrs. 5-7 meals a day. You can do 3 mail means and 2-3 snacks.
Lots of water. (I still can''t do plain - need flavored) and don't forget that we need vitamins and minerals.
When last time you had the FULL blood work done?
if you are low on energy - that may indicate some deficiencies... check that out.

You sound like me!
I am 4'9", had my RNY 3/9/06 and lost to 110. I was so mad at myself for gaining about 60 lbs back. Every10 lbs I would say to myself, oh, I can take this off and I didn't do it. So about a week ago, I had a come to Jesus meeting with myself and decided to start taking control of the situation. I started the 5 Day Pouch Test and am determined to be back at my goal weight by my surgery anniversary. You can do this! Please keep in touch with me and we can encourage each other.
