Hi, I'm 17 months out of surgery and I've had this
happen to me twice in the last month where my blood
sugar dropped into the 50's. Mine was from eating
no carbs all day and then having dinner with carbs.
About 3 hours after having a dinner with a lot of carbs my blood sugar crashed. For me if I space them
throughout the day, I'm okay. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. I think you are right, it is bad carbs and not enough protein. I have an appointment with my surgeon in a few weeks and I am going to talk to him about it.

I just hopped on here to ask the same thing? I am 7 years out and a very bad dumper. I can't eat any sugar at all. NONE! I had to go get IV fluids and they told me my sugar was to low. I ask the er doctor what to do. He said eat sugar. He don't understand I can't. They don't do gbp here at our hospitals. If anyone finds out what to do let me know.

I also have low sugar now and I will be 5 years out...this is not uncommon...Small meals frequently with high protein, and natural carbs limited are ok...Nothing with refine flour, sugar or starches. They will set your sugar off...actually they will make your body pump in to much insulin within 15 minutes which will make your sugar spike, make you sick to your stomach, cause you to be an air head and possibly put you into or close to sleep with in half an hour....As it drops very low. You can go into a coma if you are not careful with this! Drinking a large glass of orange juice is not the answer like it is for a diabetic on the other end. A small amount of sugar may be ok but you have to have have protein to maintain a decent level. It will effect your eyes, your mind and energy. No you aren't crazy...Get to a good Sugar Doctor!

The name of the issue we have is Reactive Hypoglycemia. My Endocrinologist diagnosed me after me getting very sick and almost dying when my sugar hit only 32!!!!!! Then from the crashes I had to have carbs and sugar to bring it up and here I am 40 pounds later after keeping my weight off for almost 6 years.  It is a constant battle. The only way to combat it is 6 small meals of mainly protein and veggies and no "white" or "processed" food/carbs. watch your soft slider foods that are even healthy carbs. I had to learn to eat all over again and to get this weight off is hard. One day at a time.

I too have sugar dropping problems.  Mines is so bad at times that I feel like I'm about to pass out, I get the shakes, overheated and feel like extremely sick.  When this happens, I normally have to eat a piece of chocolate or drink something with high sugar like grape soda and lay down for about 2 hours so I can get myself together.  It'll hit me all of a sudden.  I've been at work and this has happened.  I always try to keep chocolate on me at all times in case this happens.  I never knew what it was called, but now I'm glad that I know so I can research it.

Best wishes on your journey.
