caplets and pills

Hi Friends,  I had gastric bypass over 5 years ago.  I am still cutting my pills up and pouring out powder from capsels.  Do you think this is still necessary?  Thanks for your help.

I don't think it's still necessary..You could test it in tepid water and see if they disolve..the thing you need to watch for in any medication, though, is enteric coating. Enteric coating is for things that cause *burp up* like garlic would..and they put a coating on it to make it wait till the first portion of the intestines to disolve..well, since we have the first part of the intestines bypassed, it doesn't work for us..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Only you can know that for sure. Try to take them whole and see how that goes. If no problem or no stuck feeling - that you are probably OK. I am 4 years post op - I do have problem with very large pills. My pouch hates them.  I do take pills and caps, and ... also still use chewables multi and calcium.  You need to do what feels right for you.

Thanks for your reply.  I have no trouble eating or taking pills....just wondering about dissolving issues.
