I have done terrible in eating, and recently discovered a food allergy, that assisted in causing some of my weight gain.   So today, I started to get serious again.   I am going to concentrate on my proteins, drink more water, and exercise.   Hopefully, I will get this back undercontrol, and any advise from someone how has started again would be great.

If you don't mind me asking..what sort of food allergy? Celiac runs in my family and also allergies to tree nuts.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

My Name is Dawn too....My allergy is actually to Sunflower seeds.   What happens is eating them causes my body to release Histamines due to being allergic, so you actually become addicted to the feeling histamines causes.  So when you don't eat them when you crave them, you go around eating anything and everything to try to curb the craving, but nothing but the food you are allergic to will satisfy it.     So you gain weight that way.  Plus if you DO eat the food, you have to eat more and more of them more and more often.  Sunflower seeds are very high in calorie and then you gain weight from that.    I did terrible today!   I will have to try again tomorrow

What you describe does not sound like an allergy, because a seed allergy would cause all sorts of  symptoms ranging from hives to swollen lips and tongue, respiratory distress, gastrointestinal distress right up to anaphylaxis and death.  Which part of that is your body addicted too?  I think you have other issues that are causing your food problems but an allergy doesn't seem to be the one.

Good Luck

That's different than anything I've heard of. My allergy to walnuts causes my throat to close and I go into anaphylactic shock. My family has celiac disease and when someone who has full blown sypmtoms eats a bit of gluten, the celia fold down in their digestive system causing explosive diahrea..so bad that they're doubled over for hours..

I do understand addictions though. And if you can't say no to something, it is an addiction. I don't crave walnuts at all. but I do have problems with sugar and white carbs like cookies and bread.

I never would have guessed it either.    Nothing I was going through sounded anything like I thought food allergies was like, I just thought my body was craving them for the salt or Iron.    I actually went to the Doctor to be tested for an allergy to something else, when I happen to mention needing some sun flower seeds.   When I started talking to her, and she asked me a bunch of question, she laughed and ran an extra test to confirm, but told me about the food allergy.

Not all food allergies are extreme, she said, and a lot of people have allergies to foods and never know it.  She said if you have a child who will only eat food X, there is a huge possibility they actually have a mild allergy to something in that food.

She did warn me that these types of allergies do tend to get worse, because you have to eat more and more of the food, and the histimines can damage the body, and it could also turn into sever side effects like you have mentioned.

I found that I had to return to what I was doing soon after surgery and that I had gotten a little lax. I have re-introduced shakes to my daily routine and the energy and weight loss is AWESOME. Check this out -- http://blessedhands.myvi.net . I started with one shake per day and it reminded me of how I ate right after surgery. I didnt want to feel like I couldnt eat whenever I wanted -- but I also didnt want to gain. If you want to lose -- I moved to the Transformation Kit and I am excited at the weight loss. The best part is my Personal Trainer has done a lot of research and my Nutritionist supported it.

Best Wishes!
