B 12 Shots

Are B12 shots worth it? Does anyone have experience getting them after finding they had a low B12?

I'm wondering if that is the cause of my weight gain and reason I can't lose anymore.

THanks!

I wouldnt think so - Ive never heard of b12 shots effecting WL patients that way - but ive also not tried it. Thats something ive been wanting to try (but i really hate shots). Have you googled it or asked your Dr?
I do however know that other meds (ie: Depo-prevera) DO contribute to weight gain. Thats something i do personally struggle with unfortunately.

In my experience, yes absolutely. I was extremely iron and B-12 deficient several years after my RNY. Oral and sublingual supplements failed to solve the problem, so my doctor prescribed a course of IV iron infusions and monthly B-12 injections.

She taught me how to give myself the B-12, so I didn't have to go to the doctor's office and pay a co-pay all of the time. The vials cost only about $12 a month. Syringes were fairly inexpensive as well.

Once my blood work was steadily normal and I was further out from surgery, I was able to control things with some tweaks to my diet. I still take sublingual B-12 just to supplement and have been in really good shape since everything got worked out.

Low B-12 may contribute to your weight gain purely because it can make you feel very sluggish. I found it difficult to do intense workouts when the B-12 and iron were so low.

Best of luck to you!

I get B12 injections. I do it myself. Sublingual were not enough - even in high dosages. My B12 was 500 -600... And my blood work (large MCV) indicated B12 deficiencies. I started getting B12 injections once a month + subliguals. I noticed feeling better and energized after B12 injection... but the effect would wear off... so I started doing it every 2 weeks.. then every week.   Blood work show that with weekly injections my B12 (a week after injection - the low number) is in low 800... But my MCV is still larger (98) than my doc would like. So for now - we agree I need B12 weekly.
Since I do them myself, and was able to get 30ml vial of B12 for app $25... (30 dosages) - even weekly B12 cost me app $4 per month... Not a big price to pay to feel better.

Don't start getting weekly unless you check that that is what your body need.

Low B12 may be responsible for low energy, depression - and that may cause indirect  gain.  Some clinics recommend B12 for weight loss...
