I really think the surgery saved my life and I am really happy I took the chance and had the "heavier duty" surgery instead of the R & Y as the people IN my support groups and friends I have made have all gained it back....another gal who had the same as me has not....nothing coomes without some trade offs and I have had a lot of costly skin removed and had issues with my teeth ......I now have dentures but all in all I am lookin pretty good and will be around to help and love on those grandbabies.........if my boys get with it!!!

I would be interested in a link to that forum. Would you be more specific about the complications with staples?  I do medical transcription and have for 20 years and have done surgeries and followups for cancer hospitals with no mention in the 20 years of my experience with transcribing followups on gastrectomies of staple issues.

If this were prevalent then we would have heard more about it - as I hang on boards with a lot of old timer DS folks - and they have been sleeved just with the intestinal switch addition.

Things that tend to arise, that are prevalent tend to be iron issues, vitamin issues, protein issues - but these can be avoided with watching your labs and keeping your supplements up. Other things I have seen are sleeves have too much pressure in them and needing to be convered to a Roux-en-Y (only one lady I have seen) or folks losing X pounds and stopping, or possibly issues with strictures.

Hello and thanks for your post. I am a LVN and I worked for a home infusion comppany and we saw alot of patients who were on TPN due to malnutrition. What have you seen or heard about this problem? Grant it was when the bypass was about a year or two old. That has been my biggest worry I dont want to be hooked up to TPN all the time.

Oh I have had my first visit with the weight loss surgeon and my first nutritionist appointment. I am wanting to have the VSG done due to my concern about the malnutrition. I hope to get it done right after thanksgiving.
