Hair Nightmare...
I am almost 14 months post op, have been vigilant about taking my vitamins and supplements, but have consistently lost hair since month 3 post op. At this point, I literally chopped off about 90% of my hair length yesterday because I have hardly anything but short wispy new growth...no volume... and I am NOT a person who should wear short hair (with my long face, nose, and ears that stick out.) I have fine thin blond hair normally...and the new stuff is mousy brown... I have been taking biotin for the last month and am not convinced that I am done losing hair yet.
I currently shoot for about 1400 calories a day, and have been since July (having had a myriad of health issues from my body not tolerating 500 - 800 calories well). My labs are great but I take Synthroid every day for hypothyroidism (which may be part of my hair problem). The last few days I have had some tummy issues so that I only got about 700 calories each day.
I am 4.5 pounds away from my goal but I am not really even trying to lose anymore. Weight had stabilized overall but I lost a half pound this week. I am so depressed about having to chop my hair that I am shopping for wigs and cute hats today. Anybody else keep losing hair a long time, even when your weight stabilized?

Things that have helped me with hair loss were:
increasing protein. the more grams you can get in the better.
I switched to an organic biotin shampoo. biotin helps with making your hair healthy.
I take biotin supplements. you can get them at the vitamin shoppe
I hope that helps. I know losing hair sucks. cutting my hair helps with how much comes out.
I wish you luck with figuring out what works best for you!

I am only 10 months out, not at goal, with half the hair I used to have. I did everything I was told to do. I always got my protein water vitamins etc. I thought for a while I was going to be ok, but 4 mos out it happened, hair everywhere. I stayed doing what I was told until October. In my mind I had to try to get more calories in, by way of protein? that was tough because I was already eating 85 to 100 grams a day, anyway it seems to have slowed way down and yes my hair is cut off, and I have little short hairs but it seems to have stopped falling at the drastic rate it was. I gained 7 lbs, and I'm now getting it off, but never going to cut my calories under 1000 again. Biotin, a powdered mega multi vitamin drink special shampoo, whatever I can to keep what I have and try to get some back. I don't have great hopes of ever feeling good about my hair again. I too have thyroid issues and my hair wasn't super thick to begin with. I can't say I'm weight stabilized yet, I'm looking to loose about 25 more lbs. If you find a miracle please post, I'll do the same. Good Luck
