Pouch Finikiness
I am six weeks post op (Gastric Bypass) and my pouch seems very finicky to me. It just doesn't tolerate some foods at all... small amounts of Thai fried rice or Indian lamb stew, for example, cause hours of unpleasentness, foamy spit up, nausea and vomit. Also, my pouch tends to be very picky about when and how it is fed. If I feed it too soon or too quickly or, heaven forbid, both, it throws has a hissy fit that rivals anything on reality television.
I'm hoping someone in this forum has been though this and can offer advice.
Thanks,
Jim

I got sleeved over a year ago, but I can understand the pickiness of your tummy. You are still early post op, so there is hope that things will settle. Some things that have really helped me are taking ginger root capsules for the nausea and settling the tummy, eating blandly, and always take a break between bites. That "one bite too many" has sent me running to the sink more times than not, and it is very unpleasant even if you keep it down.
Another thing that has helped is sublingual Zofran tablets... My nausea goes away in only 5 - 15 minutes after taking it... You may want to check with your doc to see if you can get it or something like it.
I don't know if you are taking a PPI/acid reducer but I would strongly recommend asking your doc about that as well.
Hope you feel better. Stick with soups for now...

Thanks for the advice. I think I've taken one bite too many on a few occasions... Definitely unpleasant even when I've managed to keep it down. I have to take breaks between bites. Old habits are hard to break, but your advice really helps... I may also try the Zofran tablets, if, after I've gotten better at taking between bite pauses, I still get nauseous.
Thanks and happy new year!

I am over 7 years post-op and I still have a finicky pouch, 1 day I can eat something, the next day nope.
I still take 1 bite too many at time, it's the addiction that does it, topped with a dose of stress and wallah, I feel like crap.
Rice gets easier over time, but anything chock full of carbs is going to fill you up too fast and then leave you hungry again sooner,
that is, if you don't dump. When I dump, I don't eat till the next day.
I still dump this far out, sometimes I think I will never learn.
If I eat anything heavier than oatmeal or a shake in the morning, I do not get hungry forever it seems, I still try to stay on a schedule of eating, however with a finicky pouch that can be ever trying.
I came to the Grad board to seek old cronies out and post-oppers that are a few years old tonight.
After 7 years I am now feeling as if I am failing my tool, even though it makes me dump, feel crappy and reminds me it is still in place.
Good Luck in your journey!
