I am a four post RNY. The first year the weight just flew off. 370# to 245 in a year. About two years ago I started thinking things were going so good I can just have a little more to eat. Well this turned into a slipperly slope. I find my self snacking a lot and mindlessly eating. I never reached my goal weight of 200# (I was only 45# away, now I am 85# away.) This makes me feel depressed and a failure, knowing I was that close and blew it!!!!!!! My wife and I talked, and this morning I am starting the 5 day pouch test. This worries me that it is too late, that I have restreched my pouch to a point of no return??  I am going to see what happens. I drink water all the time before/after, and during meals which I know is wrong. I am going to stop this. Any advice or encouragement????

It's never to late to change course..Of course you will have to change some things..like drinking after eating and with meals..You might have stretched your pouch but so long as you didn't stretch the stoma too bad with the drinking with meals..you can still accomplish quite a bit.

Of course you can do it..it's totally do-able..Don't get too over whelmed and move more..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Eat only at meal time, that helps.

Snacking alot equals grazing. It has nothing to do with the size of your pouch. I am 5.5 years out and have the physical capacity to eat 5 big macs a day if I wanted to. My pouch is still restricted in size that I could only eat one at a time.,,,,,but over the course of a day, I could easily put them away.

If I did that, the size of my pouch is not the problem. The problem would be the choices that I'm making.

If you are snacking all day long or much of the day, the pouch is not the problem. Have you tried a piece of grilled chicken lately? How much can you eat? You'll find that with dense proteins you can fit less whereas other slider foods like popcorn, you can eat more and more of that. Go back to these foods and veggies.

I am 3.5 years post op and in the last 6 months I have gained 10 lbs, after a 140 lb loss to goal weight.

I know why I gained the weight. My pouch is the same size it was at 9 months out. I holds a capacity of about 1-1.5 cups, as most pouches are built. BUT the anastamosis does not have the sphincter the duodenum had, so the food literally falls out of the pouch. Thus, when I return to pre-op habits and have a beer instead of water, or snack or graze beyond my daily "plan", I will eat more calories and gain weight.

I can easily eat 3000 calories a day. EASILY. Kept at that rate, I can weigh 300 lbs again in less than a year.

Pouches do not "stretch out". My stomach now allows me to eat all the time, if I let it.

Thank you for posting, littledaddy. And thank you for letting me reply and see, in print, what I need to do.

:)

absolutely no drinking during or after meals!!! Push the proteins and cut the carbs, and you will be back on track in no time.
