Sweet tooth

(cross-post)
So I am scheduled for a revision from a lap band to rny in February. I have had many complications with the band but managed to keep off a big chunk of the weight I lost. However, I never got to goal and I think my sweet tooth was a huge factor. I know that not everyone dumps and that the dumping syndrome may not last so it is not something one can count on to keep off the sweets.

So please, tell me, how has it been for you post-rny? Do you still crave sweets? What happens when you see candy or cookies? Do you want them? How have you replaced the pleasure you got from eating sweets?

I am very interested to hear everyone's experience!

If you have an unnatural attraction for sweets, it will be a problem after RNY anyway unless you do something drastic about it. Sugar is highly addictive. I watched my ex-husband clean from sugar and it was just as bad as crack..

I stay away from sugar like an addict and that seems to help. Sugar free stuff and NSA stuff doesn't have that *I can't stop* draw on me so I can do that stuff and not lose control.

Locally we have a FA (Food Addicts) group that meets at a local hospital..maybe you can find one locally too..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Thank you.

That is something to consider. I have always been wary of saying 'never' regarding sugar as it seems like it might be a set up for me to fail. On the other hand, I may need to look at sugar as an addictive substance the way alcohol or drugs are for some people.

Thank you very much for your input.

I figure if I just can't say no then it is an addiction and there are quite a few people who feel the same way! I read posts from people who say they don't deny themselves; everything in moderation but if they have a true addiction, an alcoholic has to deny themselves..a drug addict has to deny themselves. Moderation doesn't EXIST in an addiction. .the difference is, this is food but you do NOT need sugar..just like you do NOT need alcohol or drugs..

You are the only one who can decide how serious you are about an addiction..no one else can. I'm a sugar addict and I treat it as such..
