Motrin & NSAIDS
Mostly RNY people. You had VSG - I think you should be able to take whatever you want - unless you have issues with ulcers...

My surgeon has always allowed Advil type products after I was about a year out. He insists on us taking them only on a full stomach, only for a short time and he prefers the gel caps (as do most bariatric surgeons now). Many surgeons have lifted their "no nsaids" policy as unless you're an ulcer patient it won't do anything to you to take them occasionally. Some of us need chronic pain or inflammation relief that only an nsaid will give us. I've taken Advil for 9 yrs with out any side effects or ulcer problems and I was pre ulcerative before wls surgery. Check with your doc but like most things in our life - moderation is the key. An advil occasionally for a muscle pull or tooth ache won't hurt us.

I had the VSG so I have taken ibuprofen at times but since I went to the gastro docs, I learned that ibuprofen keeps the GI docs in business due to how rough it is on our stomach etc. Since I have chronic neck and back issues, I was prescribed Flexerall - a muscle relaxer - for this. I take a half one before bed and it works very well overall. If I take a whole one, I get restless legs. I still take ibuprofen for headaches if I feel it will turn into a migraine.
One remedy that is supposed to work well is taking 1 motrin and 1 tylenol together. I have used it and it helps.
