Hi all,

8 years post op. Regain of 40 pounds, once lost 30 and REGAINED that back. So here I am. Sometimes I forget that I even had GBS. So i try to diet like a "normal" person. Low carb, low-calorie, etc. And all these 8 years, I eat, sip, eat, sip and until I can eat like a "normal" person. Today I actually did an experiment, one that I hadn't done in 7.5 years (because I actuallly did not drink with my meals right out of surgery, with fear of stretching or damaging something. Did that for 6 months and lost 120 lbs eating whatever I wanted... hmmmm..) So I actually consciously just ate my steak, veggies and rice without drinking and I ate SOOOO little. The only thing was that I became dehydrated (I live in AZ, hehe) so I so wanted a sip of my sparkling water. But I waited a few minutes and THEN drank....

Wow, my tool still works! What do you know?! What a wake up call! Maybe if I just LISTEN to my pouch, I can lose weight like crazy like I did before. One thing that I did realize was that in the morning when I do try to eat  a lot, I can't. I think what happens is that throughout the day I eat and eat and my stomach stretches over the course of the day. When I wake up, and eat breakfast, I literally can eat a few bites of something and be done.

What I might consider doing is drinking some shakes for a couple days to re-set my pouch (not as dramatic as the 5dpt). But just a couple days to get that tight feeling again.

Thought for the day: Never forget what we have to use! our tool! Even years later!

I'm happy to hear that the pouch still works.  I'm 25 months out and your post gives me hope for the future of my own pouch.

I am 10 years out from full R-N-Y surgery and I have been kind of nervous for the last several months about my weight. After surgery I dropped from 248 all the way down to 136 at one point then stayed at 140-150 lbs for about 8 years. I also became a major alcoholic during those 8 years. (Pay attention people, your addictions want an outlet and if you deny them food, they will happily take alcohol as a substitute!)
So I regained almost 60 lbs in 2008, then I finally quit drinking in 2009. My weight stayed steady around 198 for about 2 years and then around May of this year I started loosing weight again. The last time I checked (2weeks ago)I was down to 172 lbs and I am sure I have lost a few more pounds since then. It is almost like I just had surgery again and am coming off a plateau, jus****ching the pounds slide off again. I am elated, of course I have had to buy new clothes again, still had a few old things.
I had a small medical emergency in August and they found that I was very anemic and had a small ulcer in my stomach after endoscopy. The Dr checked and my staple line seemed intact.
So I do not know what I am doing different/ right this year but 2 years after I stopped pouring empty alcohol calories down my throat I am getting skinny again at 43! I am excited about this but it had seemed kind of strange until I read the above post from Mari. I was pretty convinced that my small intestine had outsmarted my surgeon and I would need more surgery if I ever wanted to loose weight again, but here I am loosing weight!
