It was a tough decision for me choosing sleeve over rny (my surgery is in 2 weeks). Just wondering if any of you with rny wish you had chosen sleeve and why?
I have been successful with my RNY, but if I had it to do over again, I would probably go with the DS because of the statistics out there about its long-term success rate of patients keeping the weight off. I think RNY, DS, and the Sleeve all have the capability to get the weight off. It is maintenance that becomes an issue. I think as far as ease of keeping the weight off, the DS wins on that one. I am 8 years out from RNY and have managed to keep all of the weight off. I had a slight regain a few years out or so but have managed to lose it and maintain. It takes a good bit of work. I definitely can't be a slacker and keep it off.
Good luck with your surgery. I hope it goes well, and I wish you much success.

I had rny over 5 years ago and lost 120 lbs in 10 mths. i stopped losing for a few months then started to gain. i have now regained almost half the weight i lost back. i in no way blame the surgery for the regain, its my own fault because i went back to old habits, started eating junk, over eating and honestly couldnt tell you the last time i exercised. i know you have it in mind to do the right things but let me tell you its not easy, so if you get off track and believe me you will, dont stop just go back to what your suppost to do. i got off track and didnt go back to basics i stayed and still am off track. but getting to my reply if i had known what i know now i think i would have had the ds and have been considering having it over the rny iv already had. so yeah very scarey stuff to think about. so make sure you do what you thinks best for you and how your body is. good luck and god bless...
Nope. I had my RNY July 2006. Lost half my body weight..down to 125 pounds, which was my goal and I've been hovering right there ever since. I've done just fine but do realize that it's really more of a mental journey..The enemy isn't your gut, it's your brain and your relationship with food. Anyone can and will lose the first year. After that, it's a mental struggle to keep your focus on doing the right things..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Yeap. wish i coudl have the VSG, or DS. Probably would go with DS if I could do "do-over" and willing to travel ... or had VSG ...
With my healthy eating habits in the past I think the VSG would have been great.
