You are not alone,  you will feel awhole lot better soon after the infusion.  I had one in July due to low ferritin 7, hgb 9.5  was feeling awful. I felt weak and tired the day of infusion but by end of one week I saw a definate improvemnt.  No big deal,  I only needed one so far.   I have been having urinary tract infections this year, So not sure if this is because of the iron deficency or not.   I also uped my vits and calcium and b12 too.  My ferritin jumped too 248 after 30 days.  So hoping I will need no more.
Hope you get the infusion soon, so you will be better fast.

I am struggling with low ferritin  (it was 6 in June,  4 this past week).     I'm not sure why my doctors aren't flagging it - but I've got a call in with them now (this is why I ask for a copy fo the results.)

Can I ask a question?  Have you been taking any iron supplement all along or not? I'm just curious if this happens regardless of supplementation or not.  No judgment, just wondering.

yes i was taking it tell last year my iron was way to high so they wanted me to get it only out of my multi twice a day and this is what happened i had a hard time taking it anyway cause it messed my tummy up so bad so they think this well be a better route for me.

Yes.   I have been taking the amount recommended by my weight loss center daily.

I am almost nine years post op and just had to have a round of ten iron infustions.  My doctor just checked my levels and even though it's only been a month, they are still good.  He said I will need them again, just doesn't know when.  He is rechecking my levels in four months.  Hope you get answers soon!

My iron dropped over 3 years post op RNY. I was taking supplements but they did not help.
2 months ago got infusions. they really helped. I feel much better now. My doc will retest in 5 months to see if I do not absorb or just maybe have a leak... (i.e. bleeding ulcer?)

You're not alone! Tomorrow, I will have #3 of 8-10 infusions. My dr said I will probably notice a difference in how I feel around infusion #4 or 5 but I have started to notice a little bit of a difference in the past 2-3 days. I am very good about my vitamins but, obviously, was not absorbing the iron in my supplements. I did not take any other iron, had my labs done yearly until last year when I skipped...my levels had always been fine. I think that a few cosmetic surgeries and heavy periods caught up with me.  The plan is to test blood after this series of infusions and then test every 6 mos after, supplementing with IV iron if needed.   Don't worry about the infusions...they are painless and only take about 15-20 mins.  If you try to get your levels up with oral supplements when you are as low as we are, it will take massive doses over a very long period of time.  Why prolong feeling crappy??
