Hi Dawn, my name is Destiny. I read and enjoy your posts all the time. I;m amazed at your success and know that you work hard to be successful. I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I had RNY 3 years ago this month, I'm dealing with a 7-9 lb regain, I notice that you shoot for 1400 to 1500 cals a day but that's to maintian isn't it? How many calories should I be getting to lose the extra lbs. I usually aim for 1200 cals a day but that doesn't seem to be working. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

I do maintain at about 1550 calories a day as an average but I'm burning that much in exercise too.

If you already journal your food, that's the first step. Looking at the list is the next step. Your protein totals, I shoot for over 100 grams a day. carb totals under that, fat totals under that..You can see that I eat every couple of hours but I try to make sure I get at least alittle protein in my snacks as well..either that or fibrous carbs like fresh veggies or fruit.

Then the next thing is how you burn your calories. Move more. Whether you prefer biking or running or just walking..just do more. If you get bored, get up and move. Find things that allow you to do that exercise. When we go shopping on the weekends, we park as far away as possible from the stores and find a cart to push..Then we go to festivals or car shows..we love a good flea market. That's not to say that I'm not sitting on my ass this weekend but I do have stuff going on..I vacuum and clean. I just stepped in from trimming a few limbs off our sickly tree out in the yard too..I can hardly wait for the weather to break so that it won't be so warm outside..I'll be walking the dogs more..or they'll be walking me!

You really can't put a number on what your calories should be, you just have to burn more calories than you intake. Asside from that, dense protein first, fibrous carbs next and white carbs (if any) after that..
