Headaches - After Weight Loss Surgery

December will be 2 years post op for me.  For about the last 6 months I have started getting daily headaches.  I have had all the blood tests done (one where they drew 14 viles) and also I had my hormone levels checked.  I have had a CT scan done.  Pretty much everything.  All were normal except my vit D was low.

For the past 15 years or so I have taken the drug Adderall to help with my attention problems.  Besides this all I take are a handfull of vitamins everyday.  Seems I only have these headaches during the workweek.  My nuero says it is not the Adderall.  She said Adderall would actually help headaches.

I am very frustrated.  My pain is actually in my sinus area.  Do you know how it feels when you suck water up you nose while swimming?  This is how I would describe my pain.  They have started to affect my short term memory while working.  I will be working on something, then just draw a blank.  I do drink a lot of coffee.  I am basically taking an imitrex several times a day just to survive.

Any ideas?

How's your stress level? Your sleep? Your fluid intake? Dehydration causes HA and pushing decaf. fluids is the first line of defense. Stay away from the coffee. I know caffeine is included in Fioricet for migraine HA, but additional/too much coffee doesn't help because it causes dehydration. I have taken Imitrex for migraines/ bad tension HA in the past. It never worked for me. I get anxious when I know that I have to go to work, (I work part time at a very stressful job) and even though I don't actually feel nervous, I know that's what's going; its a vicious cycle with me. I worry about getting a HA on the days that I have to work and low and behold,  I always get a really bad one, and nothing takes it away, no HA meds, nothing. Interestingly enough though, I don't get a HA on my days off. It could be underlying anxiety like it is for me. Since you have relief on the weekends, (I'm assuming that you work during the week), it may be stress/worry related. I know I worry about getting a bad HA every time I have to work I always get one. Are you taking a lot of Motrin/Tylenol or the like? You may be experiencing rebound headaches. Not sure if that's the case with Imitrex. As far as I know you can't take more than 2-3 of those meds in a 24 hour period. Perhaps you can ask your neuro doc about rebound HA.  I feel for you. Hope this helps:)

good morning...

Ya know...(on vacation this week) my last day at work Friday b4 labor day, I thought I would try drinking a lot of water just to see if it made a difference.  And it did.  I downed about 40 ounces of water b4 I left for work and I had a great day.  Now I am mad at myself for this being the possible reason.....dehydration!!!  Of course it has only been 1 day.  When you say dehydration causes HA..what does this mean?  If this is the cause I am grateful but I didn't consider this because I am always drinking something...EXCEPT when I get to work...I am so busy I don't think about it.

It seems that within the past month my body has changed somewhat anyway.  Excluding the headaches...my appetite has increased and I am constipated always now.  I take 2 doses of benefiber each day.  The human body....doesn't always come with instructions!!!

Thanks for your help and input.

I am 1 year out already and still haven't found a def answer. To me it all started with the worst headache ever, followed by a tonic-clonic seizure (never had one before) Daily headaches or migraines ever since. Tried all kinds of meds, including imitrex. Lately, MRI's showed a "growth" that my neurosurgeon dismissed as extra cranial fluid and that could be the source of my headaches. So off he sends me for a lumbar puncture to release the extra fluid and to measure the output. Turns out I didn't have a lot of fluid and I ended up with lumbar headaches which are worse. These are resolved with a procedure called "blood patch" that I pretty much had to beg for (Orlando vacation happen in the middle). Now I'm patched, lumbar headaches relieved but none of these doctors (anesthesiologist that did the patch, my neurologist, or my pcp because she doesn't work on Fri) will give pain meds (vicodin). Anesthisio bounced me back to neuro "it's their problem now", Neuro doesn't believe in opioid medications to treat head pain: this is not head pain, is back pain like an epidural done by the devil on meth, so he thinks ibuprofen can help... I try to explain for the 3rd time why I can't take NSAIDS "what about the celebrex I gave you for headaches last time I saw you?" Same risk of ulcers, doctor, this medication is on the list of medicines I can't take. " So where is "THIS" list that you are talking about? Okay. At this point I am certain that all doctors are soulless mother******s Why did I have to spend a night in the ER to convince a doctor that I needed a blood patch to get relief from my lumbar headaches? Why do I have to furnish a neurologist with a list of medications that I can't take so just he can help me manage my pain? And why do I have to go to him in the first place, why can't I get said medication from the anesthesiologist that did the blood patch? Just because he thought it wasn't necessary to begin with? Sorry for the rant.
