SO........I had my surgery last Dec. and was 187 lbs before the surgery and size 16. I am 9 months out and now 108 lbs and size 2/3. I am small boned, had the surgery due to a nerve disorder that caused me chronic pain 24/7 for the past 32 years.
I am now healthy, pain is at 10% and an incredible decrease in my pain, no pills. My pic was in the paper the other day and more than one person that hasn't seen me lately saw the pic in the paper and worried I am sick. Then one of my coworkers I haven't seen in a year(she works in a different city) saw my pic and started the rumor........she had stomach surgery........she has no idea what I've been through for the pat 32 years and then the surgery. Oh, she isn't much of a coworker she applied for my job last year which she didn't get, I still have it. She is a ladder climber up the corporate ladder and I would never apply for her job. Anyways, anorexic is the new word. Darn I am a strong person, 56 years old and welcome questions about the surgery.....but what about this one? Distance and rumors are making me mad.

ps I eat properly and not anorexic, most people have never seen me thinner. Suggestions on how to handle a jealour coworker please!

Try to ignore the comments from people around you. I had WLS also in order to get out of pain and my weight got a little too low, and I gained a little weight to reach my optimal weight today. Just after you lose weight you will have a look of starvation because you have been starving your body for 9 months. Assure people that you are on a path of recovery and thank them for their concerns. Many people are jealous and will believe you have taken an easier path, but you don't need to explain your whole life to anyone other than hopefully those few people in your life that really matter and support you. All the best for continued health.

Oh, that happened to me too. The people who say those things don't know. They're looking at normal weight and can't wrap their minds around it because the whole world is over weight..Take a look around you..I mean, the people who walk around Walmart are a pretty good cross section of humanity and most of them are obese, over weight or just fat..

I would tell you not to let it bother you but obviously it does..I would probably tell you not to bother calling that woman on it but you could, if you found the right words, let her know that her butting in hurts your feelings..Don't underestimate the fact that you probably should say something to her..don't let these things fester if it's going to bother you..

Years ago when my grandfather passed away I wanted some of his things but never told anyone. Later the family said "We didn't know. You should have said something." Well, now that my dad has passed away, I made SURE that my mom knew exactly what I wanted of my dad's to remember him..nothing of huge value but things that mean something to me..I never want to go through life ever again thinking I should have said something or stood up for myself but didn't..damn it..if it will bother you...SPEAK UP and tell the ***** off! don't let it fester!

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

The door that is "Body Dysmorphic Disorder" swings both ways.

People have said that our son is "skinny."  Truth be told, he is normal.

All I can respond with is: "No, he's a normal weight for his age.  The problem is we have gotten used to seeing obese children and it's warping us into thinking it's normal."

If someone says you are thin, just tell them you are normal and maybe their perception is a bit warped.

anorexia has nothing to do with clothing size it is based on BMI
your profile says you were a BMI of 30, weight 187 pre surgery means you height was 5'61/2 inch is that correct?

because if it is your BMI now at 108 lbs= 17 and that is seriously underweight. It can be just as unhealthy to be underweight as it is to be overweight. Only you and your physician can determine what a healthy weight is for you.

One concern for you will be osteoporosis it is more common in low- body weight individuals. Hopefully you are maximizing your vitamin D and calcium, having regular bone density testing.
Gratitude is my attitude
