lactose intolerance?

Can it be that I have become lactose intolerant 3 years after WLS?  I have now had 2 bouts of extremely bad diahrea in which I've lost weight very quickly (but gained it back when i got better).  Yesterday I had a salad with some blue cheese on it and about 1/2 hour later, I was in the bathroom.  The surgeon told me that some people develop lactose intolerance after surgery and I was so happy that I wasn't, but now I'm starting to wonder.
Thanks
L.

After listening to my aunt for years telling us that adult humans aren't suppose to drink what baby calves drink (and ignoring it quite well actually), after surgery when regular cows milk caused explosive diarhea...I switched to soy milk (I can't drink almond milk cuz I'm allergic to tree nuts)..and have never gone back. I went with plain soy and not vanilla cuz it's got too much sugar in it for me.

It just made sense to me. I drink about 1/2 cup a day maybe a tad more in stuff I've cooked. a 1/2 cup in a double espresso and 1/4 of a 1/2 cup in my protein waffles...Some people are nervous about consuming too much soy since it has been linked to estrogen related ailments.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I had always heard that too about the baby calves...but growing up on the farm, we sometimes drank right from the cow (warm but good).  I love milk.  I tried the soy stuff once and gagged on it.  But I guess we must do what we must do.
Thanks

Hey, I love straight from the cow! We had that growing up too! Make your own butter, cheese..that would be awesome and I could do that..well, so long as it's cooked, I think.

What my aunt was saying is that even without additives, calves grow to be an adult in two years. They're milk has natural growth hormones. She hinted that all it does for us humans is make us fat..When i developed lactose intolerance (explosive diarhea and double over cramping) I gingerly tried soy milk and had to even go to plain cuz even vanilla has too much sugar in it..too sweet..so long as I'm using it in something like my double espresso latte or in cooking or over cereal (which I haven't tried again in some time), I'm okay..but as a big glass of milk..nah, I'll just pass on that and have a glass of iced tea instead.

Oh, for the good old days...
I love the Starbucks lattes.  Think I'll try the smaller size and use soy - it's a start.
Thanks.

I make my own..I got an espresso machine for Christmas and I use the HELL out of it..that way, I get exactly what I want and save money too. For the cost of ONE, I buy a whole 12 oz of espresso grind or actually get the beans and grind my own (bought myself the grinder for Valentines!)

yes, you can become lactose intolerant after not being so....over the past year, I have become increasingly unable to tolerate most things dairy (I am 8+yrs post rny). Extreme bloating, cramps, diarrhea, bad gas.....I have eliminated most dairy, now I use almond milk for any protein shakes or where I can substitute in cooking. I can still tolerate small amounts of hard cheese, full fat cream, and most yogurts. I haven't figured out the yogurt thing, though----some brands give me cramping and bloating.  Anyway, eliminate what you can and you will feel alot better!

After 8 years!!!  Wow.  Thanks for that - I think this bears a little more investigation for sure.
