Got some questions

Just found this board and thought it would be appropriate to ask questions of some "veterans" would might know some answers.  I am just a little over 1 year out from RNY (Aug 3), not at my personal goal but very near.  I am starting the plastic surgery process from the top down in a couple of weeks (face, eyes, neck) so had to have pre-op labs.  It seems my liver enzymes are still elevated.  They have been so since surgery.  I guess it is fairly common but I don't know how it will impact my surgery/healing, etc.  My bariatric surgeon isn't concerned, my endocrinologist is, pcp isn't sure but as long as the baratric surgeon says it is ok, they are willing to go ahead with it.  Will this have an effect on healing, risk of surgery etc?  Doctors don't seem to know or are ambivalent about it.  I have heard that milk thistle might help.  I have GERD and need to take something for refulx.  Have been taking a lot of H2 blocker (AXID) as PPI's have really bad side effects for me.  Also, have been taking Vicodin 1- 1/2 per day for OA in my knee.  I take all the recommended vitamins etc and about 100 grams of protein per day.

I'm not sure if it will effect your healing or not.  Have they investigated to find out why your enzymes are elevated?  I recently had blood work that showed mine as being elevated also.  They are just now starting to look into a cause.  The ER doctor told me he thought it could be from the tylenol in the percocet that I take for abdominal pain.  I noticed that you take Vicoden.  Has anyone mentioned that as a possible cause?

Hope they find out what is going on for you and real soon.  Good luck with your plastic surgery process!

Thanks for your post.  They really don't know why.  I asked them about the tylenol in the Vicodin and they said it wasn't enough to cause any problem.  They don't really seem to be concerned about it and it hasn't gone up anymore than it did @ first but they say that it shouldn't be elevated.  I do notice that a lot of WLS patients have that as a result without knowing what causes it.  Hope it doesn't cause a problem in the future.
