Need support

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted but I am finding I really, really am in need of support.  I had RNY 4/26/10.  I went from 252 to 198 ONLY - not nearly as much as I was hoping for.  I have been reading others posts and am seeing such wonderful results and others struggling as I am.  I feel great but struggle to give up the carbs, but when I do I lose.  I have been successful with so many other things since my surgery.  I have completed Medical Coding classes & have accepted a Coding position which I will be starting Aug 29 as well as gained so much more confidence in myself.  I am off some of but not all of the medication I was hoping for.  I guess I am  reaching out and looking for encouragement.  I intend to get moving ALOT more in the next weeks now that my schooling is done.  Our son moved out and we have bought a weight machine, have a treadmill and I also have an excercise ball & bands with all the excercises that were provided to me by a PT as part of the program & will make his room into the excercise room.  I'm just hopeful I can still lose another 25 - 30 lbs.  One thing I have learned is that I don't need to eat just because others are.  That was the hardest thing.  I find I drink more protein or eat a protein meal replacement bar.  I'm not feeling sorry for myself just venting to others who will hopefully understand and tell me to keep moving forward.  Thanks everyone.

See if you can find a food addicts group to start attending. I just recently found out that there are groups available in my area..you might be surprised to find them in your area..It's much like AA or a drug addicts group but for certain foods (white carbs: sugar, bread, rice, pasta..)

I treat my addiction the same way that someone addicted to crack or alcohol would treat it. I've cut it out to zero tolerances where humanly possible and that is the only way that I can function..

Good luck to you..stop by the accountability threads. We have support there every day!
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Yes, you are not alone.  I just posted an update post about me...  I have been non-compliant for almost 2 1/2 years post surgery...  I finally went back to my surgeon and he put me on a "re-boot" diet that they offer there at the clinic.  Basically, it is very similar to the pre-op diet he gives patients who need to lose weight before surgery (only I think I'm eating less than they would).

Today is day 5 of this 14 day diet and I'm having 3 protein shakes and 2 protein bars per day along with water and vitamins and that is all.  It is not easy, but it is something that has to be done for me to break my carb cravings.  After the two weeks is up, I will see the dietician again and she will go over the post-op eating plan with me and will discuss how much I need to be eating (measuring) in order to finish losing the additional weight I want to lose that I never lost post surgery.

I agree also that the accountability threads are good.  If you post, it helps you watch what you eat all day long so you don't make a fool of yourself on the board!  lol  If you don't post, it is still good at giving you ideas of meals that you can have that will help you mix things up so you don't get bored.

Thanks Dot.  I know that they offer a similar program through my surgeon's office.  I am going to start journaling again and keeping track of my calories.  I was told by my surgeon's office to keep my daily total to 1200 calories and move more.  Here I go starting today - good luck and maybe we can keep in touch and keep eachother posted on our progress.

I have the same struggle.  I was down to 172 but have gained 20lbs. I don't take vitamins or exercise and have a very sedatary job. I need to get my rear in gear and get back on track. I was great till I lost my great job which resulted in the loss of my house and everything I worked so hard for. Protein, vitamins and exercise - NO SUGAR OR BAD CARBS!!!!!

I offer you my encouragement and support!!!  We're both in the same boat.
