Thank you so much for your support and ideas.  I think I'll print this post out and read it when I need the reminder!!

I went to my surgeon's support group last night.  They have them every week and a "graduates" meeting once a month.  My surgeon's office is 2 1/2 hours away from where I live and 1 1/2 hours from where I work, so I won't be able to go every week, but I do plan to go every other week here to start with and then at least monthly to the "graduates" meeting for a long time to come because even after that one meeting last night, I'm feeling better and I KNOW I can get back on track!!

I also made an appointment for Aug 4 to have my vitamin levels checked, visit w/ my surgeon, dietitician, and exercise expert!!  I'm pretty excited!!

Thanks again!

I can do it and I WILL do it!

Do something Friday

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." ~ Dalai Lama

You'll catch more flies with honey than you will with vinegar.  Have you ever noticed that doesn't seem to be the pervading wisdom for losing weight?  Apparently, our culture thinks shame, guilt, and berating are the appropriate methods for motivating loved ones, strangers, and ourselves into losing weight.

When your  boss repeatedly comes in and yells at you, you may be motivated to do what he asks in the short term but you probably won't invite him to the staff Christmas party you're hosting at your home.  You won't want him around and he probably won't get your best work out of you.

Is that the kind of relationship you want with yourself?  Does yelling, berating, belittling and making yourself feel guilty really make you more effective managing your weight?  No?!  Then give it up.

This weekend, make an extra effort to be kind to yourself.  Practice patience with yourself.  Counter the negative talk with positive, actionable weight management plans and then execute on those plans.  Use the weekend to jump start your weight loss as a way to be good to yourself.

Doing one thing well

Leo (at Zen Habits) recently wrote a post entitled Do One Thing Well.  On his blog, he talks about simplicity and doing work you love.

He advice has the ring of truth to it, though, for us, as well.

Think of the weakest spot in your eating behaviors.  For many people, it is the time after dinner when they sit down to watch TV.  Pretty soon, they're in the kitchen scavenging for ice cream, salty or crunch snack and the snacking goes on until bedtime.

99.9% of the time, this is a boredom or habit driven behavior.  You may think you like it...and you really may...but could you make one small change (do something really well) and kick start your weight loss?

It has been my experience with clients, that what they enjoy in that snacking mode, is the behavior --- not the food.

If you're looking for the most bang for the least buck -- find a weak spot in your eating behaviors and alter it.  You don't have to do everything perfectly -- just do one thing well!

After 6 years of trying unsuccesfully, I thought it was going to be impossible to lose too. Until I tried the Hcg drops. I have now lost 35 lbs. which is more than half of what I have gained. I'm really psyched about finally retuning to my goal weight which I had achieved in 2005. Yahoo!

So, you are using the sublingual drops?  And 500 calorie diet??  I have co-workers doing that.  My PCP is also affiliated with a med spa and they advertise that diet, so I did actually consider it for a minute, but I think I want to try my surgeon's "Re-Start" program first.

I'm not sure if my PCP's Hcg diet is sublingual or injections...  Anyway, good for you that you are making progress!  Keep up the good work!

Thanks!

What is your physician's "re-start program"?

I'm not even really sure...  I just know that they advertise it on their website and it is for post ops at least a year out that are having difficulty sticking to the program.  I will post more after I see my surgeon on Aug 4.

someone told me they thought it was 2 weeks of nothing but protein shakes and bars...  but, I still haven't seen the doctor, so I don't know for sure yet.

I just realized I didn't answer your question. I take sublingual drops, and follow the 500 calorie diet. I'm on my second 45 day round, and have lost 35.5 lbs so far. I hope to lose another 30 lbs, and suspect I'll have to do another round to do that. I can't believe how much energy I have. You would think on 500 calories I would be tired and weak and hungry, but I'm none of those things. I would wish you luck, but with HCG, all you have to do is follow the plan and you'll succeed.
