Dieting post RNY

So, I'm almost 3 years post RNY and I have gained back about 20 lbs.  I need to get back on track with my eating and hopefully lose these extra pounds.

I tried the Flat Belly Diet a couple months ago which is really just eating healthy.  However, I'm afraid that after having RNY my metabolism has changed and my body is extra efficient at surviving and holding on to calories.  I'm afraid that it is going to be impossible to lose weight again.

I am also going to try to get more active.  If only it weren't so darn hot!!  I downloaded the couch to 5k app on my iphone and did the first day of the 9 week plan before falling and hurting my knee (the fall wasn't related to the first run at all)...  so, now that my knee is healed, I need to get back out there and do it!

Please let me know what "diets" any of you post RNY folks have been successful with.

Thanks!
Dot

I don't remember the exact formula, but it is a theory and something like "To maintain 150 pounds after weight loss surgery you need to eat like a person maintaining 120 pounds"

After the first few years, the body becomes super efficient as holding onto weight.  Weigh****chers can be an excellent program for you.  Just remember that it will take time and patience. I am happy if I go down one or two pounds a month.  It will take a long time to get the excess weight off, but it is far better than doing nothing and gaining more.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm pretty certain that if I can get more exercise that will help...  Plus, focus on the rules and stay away from carbs I can do it!  I'm looking at going back to the flat belly and/or 17 day diet or a variation of the wo along with keeping the rules at the forefront of whatever those books say to do.

Thanks again.

Eating 1000 calories per day and working through Couch 2 5K would be a great "diet."

I think this is what I'm looking at doing.  Getting back to the RULES of the pouch too!  Thanks!

I also just looked at the couch to 5k in 9 weeks.  I have gained about 18 lbs and have not been to the gym I always find a reason.  Last week was going to start back and I got a rash on my back so I was not allowed to sweet or be out in the sun.  Plus with the steroids I think I gained another few pounds.  I don't have an Iphone so I couldn't down load it but I did print it off.  I would love to be your buddy and lose this weight together as well as trying the 5k?  Send me a friend request if you are interested.

I tried to friend you, Raynetta, but it says your profile is private...

Do you have an ipod touch?  You can also get the app on that.  The reason why I love the couch to 5k app is because you can listen to your own music and it times everything for you and does a little voice over your music to tell you when to run, when to walk, etc...

I would LOVE to do it because I used to love to run when I was in High School before I gained all my weight and became sedintary...  but, I just don't know when I'm going to be able to do it with the weather dangerously hot like this!  I guess I need to just make myself roll out of bed earlier...  But, I already wake up at 5:15 as it is with my hour commute to work each morning!

Thanks again to everyone for your replies and support!

Dot--I'm a runner and I live in the bowels of Hell......Central Alabama.  Many days we have had over 100 degree heat with almost 100% humidity.

If you can't run in the morning (ideal time, but I'm like you, I have to get up at 5 already for work) then go in the evening and try to find a shady path or neighborhood to run.  You really will become acclimated to the heat after a few times....make sure you wear as little as possible and HYDRATE!!

It is hard in the heat, but I do find that after such a huge sweat I feel really good.  Wishing you the best as you rediscover running.

We have some pretty cool paved trails that go through trees here, so that is where I go to run.  I know I need to run in the morning.  I really need to work on getting to bed earlier so I will be able to get up!!

Thanks!

Bowels of hell? I love that. I'm in Georgia, and I can sooo relate. We're supposed to hit 102 degrees this week, and no matter how much my thighs are rubbing together I can't see myself hoofing up and down a path any time soon. Can't wait till fall ..
