It's My Surgery Birthday Today

Hi Everyone.  My name's Linda and today is 9 years to the day that I had weight loss surgery, 4 June 2002.  You know, I'd forgotten that today, nine years ago I was a 301 pound/137 kilogram woman.  To me that's a good thing as I've gotten on with life.  If the Obesity Help website hadn't sent me a Happy Anniversary email, I would have forgotten.

It's been a long road and after a lengthy recovery from surgery I began to live life.  Before than and for most of my life my weight ruled my life....what seat I sat in, seatbelts didn’t connect in most backseats, how far I had to walk, what clothes looked OK, how tired was I, did people pity me, did I have the energy to carry out a new job, were people looking at me, etc, etc......

Today I have maintained my weight loss of 132 pounds/60kilograms since recovery.  I have had ups and downs with my health (two needed iron infusions & borderline osteoporosis) and continue to battle a lifetime of unhealthy food habits, almost on a daily basis.  I have embraced an active lifestyle (aqua aerobics and walking) with the highlight being three overseas WALKING holidays lasting 10 days each!!!

For me, WLS has given me back my life and gone further to allow me to have the life I enjoy on a daily basis.  I am so thankful.  My 50th high school reunion is later this month and I look forward to dancing the night away!!!
