I had my surgery on April 16, 2002.  I got divorced, then got remarried, had my first and only child in 2006.  I gained back 70lbs, and am struggling just like before.  I workout, I do zumba, I recentely did advocare, and that helped...i lost 13lbs, and now when I eat I feel like I have a pouch again, but I just dont know what else to do...I read what you are saying and I think oh, i should do that, but I do feel like a failure....and just wi**** wasnt a constant battle on what i put in my mouth...

Hugs Kerry and you know what? You are normal! Weight gain is normal and remember you had a baby, congrats by the way, how exciting for you.
Now...stop feeling like a failure.
There is no magic.
You have to move to lose weight.
Kudo's for doing workouts and zumba. Walking is great so take the baby for a walk.
I post mainly on the Over 50 Forum about Mindful Eating. Feel free to stop in and see what I'm posting about.
I mainly copy and paste my Eating Coach's daily blog Monday thru Friday.
Remember what works for one person might not for another. I'm not on a diet, I just practice Mindful Eating and journal and exercise. I don't sit around the table after I'm done eating. If you don't do that you may just find yourself picking at food you really don't want.
You know there is truth in that saying when your in love you eat more again and maybe not move as much as you should. Find time for you. Be kind to yourself, you will get those 70 pounds off in time. Maybe you should set small goals for yourself like losing 5 pounds at a time. It all adds up and it's not a race, it's about your health and lifestyle change. Any thing else and you are back to yo-yo dieting. Diet's don't work. Pills don't work. Exercise and lifestyle change does.
Be sure to go to a Bariatric Support group in your area. You will find you are NOT alone.
The word Failure is not allowed in our meetings. Making new habits, finding workout buddies and 100% support is what you need. Now...take that baby for a walk!! Hugs Debbiejean

I beat myself up too.  Gaining some of the weight back is quite normal.  Don't like it but there it is.  I wi**** wasn't a constant battle too but it is.  Coming here and participating helps me to stay in the game I'm sure it will help you as well.  Tomorrow is a new day to start over.  Good luck!

Kerry, don't beat yourself up!  I've been doing that too, and you know what, it only makes things worse!!

Be happy that you're identifiying the problem and working on it!  13 pound loss is wonderful!  Be proud of what you're doing for yourself.

I know the frustration of the constant battle with what you put in your mouth... I battle it constantly.  You are not alone!

Best wishes,
Linda

Hi Kerry,
you truly are not alone my name is Sharon King and I had my RNY in 9/13/2006 . I have just retired from my job of 31 years and I just got lazy, there really is know other way to put it and I gained 25 pounds I had to stop and realize what I was doing to myself and what kind of example was I being to my self, my HUSBAND who had just had the same surgery and too my Daughter who if I don't help will need the surgery. Look at how blessed you are everyday is a NEW day to Change you CAN DO IT be Blessed you have the GIFT you can do it.

Kerry, I hear ya. I had surgery in 8/02 and lost 130lbs and have put back on 65lbs in the last 3 hrs. I'm having a band in 2 weeks. My pouch has stretched and if I don't do this I fear I will be back over 300lbs in a few yrs. I wish you luck and congrats on the loss!

Good morning!
I am sorry to hear about the weight gains... I am very new, I just had RNY 2 weeks ago.
I think if that were to happen to me, I start from square one! protein shakes 3 times and 64 oz water every day, i don't know perhaps for a week, and then go to eating 1/2 to 1 cup protein as meals and protein snacks if needed. This is my plan if I wear to gain weight.

I am mainly fearful of gaining my weight back after losing it. May I ask how the weight gain happened besides getting pregnant?(btw congrats on your new baby.. that is very exciting)  How did you fall off the wagon? were there any red flags? because in my support group they said you really have to go out of your way and ignore many signs to gain the weight back.

I wish every body the strength to get back and stay on track :)

Seventy pounds is going to take a lot longer to lose than it did right after surgery.  You need a long term goal and a series of short term goals.  Right after surgery, we eat small amounts because that is all that our bodies can handle.

Then we heal up, life goes on, and we lose interest in the original eating plan.  We go back to eating for pleasure, fun and to share with others.  We don't order a steak for iron, we order it because it looks and tastes good.  My Tuesday NIght Dining Club is meeting at Outback tomorrow.  I could stay home and have a nice protein shake, but I will be at Outback, eating steak and socializing with my friends.

In my opinion, Weigh****chers is the best solution for  us now.  Weekly meetings and weekly weigh-ins keep you in touch with others and out of denial.  Weigh****chers is in business to help  people lose weight and they know how to do that.  Their plan works.  They have meetings everywhere.  There is one close to you scheduled very soon.  Make an effort to take care of yourself and to get back that slim body that you want so much.  Having your pouch can be your secret weapon to make Weigh****chers so much easier for you.

You can have it all.  Great food choices that you really enjoy, successful weight loss, and enjoying all of the journey.

Thank you all very much for you words of wisdom....I guess I just have to remember, that this is a constant battle, just talking to people helps.  I really dont know how I gained the weight...I guess from entertaining.....I am a busy body, I like to party...and once I got smaller, I really liked to party....but now, I just like to entertain....that saying about never trust a skinny cook...couldnt be any more true...I cook good....i am just gonna get back on the wagon with this advocare, and I am liking that quite a bit...it gives me a ton of energy, and I feel productive with my self....just have to keep going.
